Sydney South Harbour Hash House Harriers

Sydney South Harbour Hash House Harriers Social Running Group meets Tuesdays at 6:30pm. We'll mind your bags and welcome you. We follow a chalk trail normally starting from a park, pub or private home.

Runs (or walks for those so inclined) are usually held within 15km of the CBD. Runs generally last about 1 hour. Visitors both runners and walkers are encouraged. Following the run we enjoy a social drink known as the bucket. Some if not most then ajourn to a local bistro, restaurant or someones place for a cheap meal. Membership is available.

All good in Earlwood! 8/9/26

CHIMNEY shocked the club by deciding to actually host a Sydney South Harbour H3 quite a few kms south of the harbour, inducing palpitations in a few venerable members from the North side of the Harbour, although LAUNDROMAT and TWIN DICKS braved the bridge (or tunnel to get there, while the 10 or so other attendees lived west of, if not actually south of, the aforementioned harbour crossings.

LADY DI’s pussy-sitting duties in the North Shore recently could’ve qualified her as a temporary North Shoreite, but having recently returned to her abode in Surry Hills it wasn’t such a distance for her, though she did whinge about the 423 bus: mind you so do all its regular users, the hare included!

Earlwood would be an excellent location for a daylight saving run, with some great urban bush, riverside paths, a flying fox colony and some cool city views to enjoy, but it made a reasonably acceptable evening run and walk, going by the 9.65 average scores offered by RED DELICIOUS and CELESTIAL, respectively..

Talking of venerable members, VENERABLE called the hare a couple of hours before the run start to say he’d be unavailable to officiate as RA, but to expect GRANGE to fill in for him instead.

In the event GRANGE no showed, but morphed into STRETCH (or 4X2, to be more accurate), who was initially assisted by NY**HO, who gave the pack benediction in Greek, in recognition of the number of Bubble & Squeeks 🇬🇷 living and operating businesses in the suburb.

But as to the course itself, well for the walkers it had a hill down and a hill up, and the the runners it had 2 hills down and 2 hills up, with one being particularly steep!
There was a bit of parkland, a number of large houses on steep sites and a surprising number of statues of Madonna & Child ( the religious one, not the singing one!) in varying gardens, as well as in the grounds of the large ‘Our Lady of Lourdes’ school, near the run start.
The walkers and runners trails rejoined at the start of the Homer Street shopping area, near Kalymnos restaurant (poli kala!) and took the pack down past the On Inn venue (Earlwood Hotel) to the carpark where the bucket was located.

SWIFTY and RED DELICIOUS were infact the only 2 runners on the night, and they’re made swift work of it, assisted no doubt by RD’s insider knowledge, having lived in a house down in the valley that the trail passed by, at some stage back in the day.

MONGREL and MOTHER were the last two to arrive back at the bucket, preceded by DANCES WITH TREES, and apologies if any other attendees haven’t been name checked by this stage..!

Thanks to some advice from Botany Bay H3’s GREWSOME, CHIMNEY had secured a private back room at the pub, away from the Tuesday Night Trivia, and the food came quickly and seemed to fit the bill for those assembled: I’ve since tried making their ‘whipped fetta’ dish, being a successful addition to last night’s supper, and it was also poli kala.

No decent photos to share of the run, so here’s a photo of Earlwood’s most (in?)famous resident, when he lived there as a schoolboy..! 🤪

Efcharisto Poli for making the effort to head south, Folks..
