The Ultimate Trail Riding Horse
Digger 15.3hh, 9yo gelding.
Easy to catch (catches you), float, trim/shoe, worm, teeth (all up to date).
From Breeder to Trainer to NSW Standardbred Rehoming Program, saddle trained by SS Equine - purchased and further trained by experienced lady rider (current owner). DOES NOT PACE.
Exposed to tarps, pool noodles, flags, archery, gun fire, traffic, crowds, town, parade and ceremonies, trucks, bikes, dogs, wildlife etc. Used for Light Horse reenactment, pony club, endurance and trail riding. Digger is not bomb proof but getting pretty close.
He is not suitable for nervous riders or beginners.
Trail Riding - Excellent in large groups, small groups, with one other horse, and alone. Has completed the ATHRA trail boss course. Booted on trails.
Does not require lunging before work even after 6 months+ off. Is often used as the friend lender, having taken many friends out on rides. Ridden in Sydney streets, country towns, in the bush, in open paddocks and out on the road, at night, in rain/wind, past trucks, bikes, people, dogs, wildlife etc. Can pony others off him or he can be ponied off other horses.
Pony club and riding club - arena work, jumps, horse ball, barrels, bending/flag races, trail challenge/obstacle course etc.
Endurance - Successful completion of 20km at Woodstock NSW with excellent heart rate with minimal training prior. Was in his element. Happy to trot like a steam train or walk along quietly alone or with others. Does not pace under saddle. Canters beautifully. After long periods of time off can be very lazy and sometimes needs a lot of 'good boy' pats for reassurance when he does canter so he knows he is allowed to canter. After each ride the laziness is less and less but he is not what I would call forward - he is willing.
If you are a beginner, he knows. He will stand still whilst you flap your reins and legs and stop walking on the trail for rests. He is not yet suitable to beginners due to this. He will move for you with a click, squeeze then a kick if those don't work. A whip waved or tapped can assist as can spurs used gently. Can be ridden in a Snaffle etc or bitless.
Digger has a healthy respect for the flag on the end of the whip/stick and lunge whip on the ground for training or lunging. He is very smart and trainable. He walks along beautifully along the trail without the need for kicking or constant asking - unless you're a beginner he will figure you out in a heartbeat and stop for a rest. Digger has never bolted or reared, never pigrooted or bucked. He moves extravagantly in the paddock but slow and steady under saddle. Has never foundered/no laminitis history. No illnesses. Digger is a horse you can love, show a lot of affection for and build a beautiful relationship with - and he will give it back to you 10-fold. He loves nothing more than kisses, treats, grooming, and cuddles. He has a great personality but if you treat him like an object, he is absolutely not for you.
Why is he for sale? He has a lot of talent and love to give to his human. He wants to be with you and get all the attention and rides and adventures. I want him to find that as I lack the time (life happens). I am reluctantly advertising him but know it is the right thing to try and find him his human that will dote on him.
