Strap yourselves in folks as we wrap up the biggest weekend in golf and no I’m not talking about the Open Championship.

The Cunderdin Open Weekend, McIntosh 4BBB on Saturday and Stewart Cup on the Sunday (no its not named after our fifth favourite Mussared).

On Saturday 104 (that’s not a typo) want to be golfers graced the course on a beautiful day. With the beverages flowing freely thanks to our wonderful cart ladies Holly and Jamie a fantastic day was had by all. Great golf was played by the winning pair of Tristan Beaton and Tim Madigan.

Saturday night concluded with a cup of tea and a cucumber sandwich and everyone went home early to watch the golf on tv.

68 golfers fronted up again on Sunday to fight it out for the Stewart Cup and it was an absolutely magical day for golf. Special thanks to the Cunderdin guys who cooked the bacon and eggs on Saturday and Sunday morning and it is definitely not true that someone had a bottle of red wine with their bacon and egg sandwich at 8am on Sunday morning.

As you can see Tim Madigan had a great weekend, the only thing more outlandish than his golf was the outfit that he was wearing. The last time a woollen knitted mustard polo was in fashion Don Buegge had long hair. That shirt was last seen with Professor Plum in the Library with a candle stick.

Now that the golfing awards are done, we can get down to business. Best off course this weekend had several contenders. On any normal weekend the all night effort of Jack Jasper and Cameron Moses would have put them over the top. Cameron was even a winner on Sunday, it’s very hard to get 14 points. But an extra special effort from one of our long standing (or sitting and sometimes sleeping) visitors was especially outstanding this year. To protect his identity he will remain nameless, so don’t worry Macca.

These days do not happen without a huge amount of help. Captain
Ben and Vice Captain Vic did a power of work in the lead up to ensure everything went smoothly on the day. Also thanks very much to Carol Bridge and Marilyn Scarlett who did a fantastic job in the office all weekend. It definitely helps when your wife is doing the countback, doesn’t it Vic.

Our favourite Mussared Julie and her catering team did a great job on Saturday and Sunday keeping everyone extremely well fed. Although don’t try and buy a sausage roll or party pie in Cunderdin after we had 170 golfers over the weekend.

Bar Staff of Jack Jasper (Saturday), Dee Hobley and others did a great job keeping everyone hydrated. Special thanks to Holly and Jamie being the course cart ladies on Saturday.

A fantastic group of Cunderdin golfers put in a mountain of work in the lead up to the event to ensure the course was in great condition. It is a credit to our dedicated group of volunteers and their leader Darren Jasper (Puff).

Puff however wasn’t in attendance and is swanning around Europe. Particularly bad timing by Puff (or Donna because I doubt Puff had anything to do with booking the trip). It was mentioned in certain corners that maybe Donna could be up for a particular trophy at the end of the year for dragging the course manager away before the Open Weekend. And no, I’m not afraid of Doanna as she is several thousand kms away and won’t be back for a couple of months.

Next week (now last weekend because the notes are late) was the Kellerberrin Open Weekend on Saturday and Sunday and we had a good turnout. Rumour has it that Robert Fulwood is looking for a partner and after his back to back NAGA’s you are almost guaranteed to be in the winner’s circle.

The best of the best lined up to lined up on Saturday to play for the Captain’s Trophy.

Captain Ben had made big promises and the expectations were high. With the course looking fantastic thanks to Puff and his crew you would expect the scores to be great, but alas golf was the winner again.

Now some of the enthusiasts will have noted that Captain Ben won his own trophy. He did have a long and hard discussion with himself about whether he should win, and he decided that he should.

But, in a dramatic turn of events, and proving why he is our favourite Captain this year, Ben put the cash on the bar. Well done Ben! 🍺🍺🍺

Readers of the page may have been concerned about the whereabouts of Cunderdin’s friendliest golfer Aaron Cooper, as he went missing last week. Good news he was found safe and well and apparently was not lost and knew “exactly where I was probably meant to be”.

The page does not delve into gossip, but rumour has it that Aaron is now the favourite for a very prestigious trophy at the end of the year.

A few Cunderdin golfers traveled to Tammin for their Open Day on Friday. Unfortunately for the black and white there wasn’t much joy on the golf course but, a little birdy may have divulged that celebrations of their mediocre golf efforts may have carried on well into the night and morning, but this page doesn’t spread rumours.

And further to last weeks notes, no Stuart Mussared is not our favourite Mussared like he has been telling everyone all week, it is obviously Julie.

Next weekend is the Cunderdin Open Weekend with the McIntosh 4BBB on Saturday and the Stewart Cup on Friday.
The course is in great condition and we are looking forward to a big weekend. Anyone wishing to nominate please contact Captain Ben.

On a perfect day for golf, a quality field took to the course to play in a Four Ball Better Ball (4BBB) competition for the CBH Fertiliser Trophy. Thanks very much to CBH Fertiliser for the sponsorship.

Captain Ben Elliott returned to run the show this week after being missing in action last week. Nobody knows where Ben was last week, he said he was working, but nobody believes that.

A Week of Firsts
Trever (Silky) Wilkins played his first game of golf this year.
It was the first time that Quinny has ever won a NAGA. Well done Rod.
And in big news, it is the first time one of the ladies has won a trophy in the men’s competition. Future generations of young women will thank Aaron Cooper for this monumental occasion.

Social Notes
Congratulations to everyone’s 2nd favourite Mussared (Tom) on his engagement to Ruth. Good thinking on Tom’s behalf by taking her camping into the middle of nowhere to pop the question. She can’t really say no out there. Well done Tom and Ruth.

Happy 60th to Ex-President Puff who celebrated with everyone who wasn’t at golf on Saturday.

Missing
Please keep an eye out for Aaron Cooper. Aaron was meant to be teamed up with Vic on Saturday but failed to show, after being out in Perth with Jack Jasper on Friday night. Vic was extremely concerned about Aaron’s wellbeing as he was sure that he would not abandon him.
In good news for Vic a much better golfer (his wife Carol) stepped up and carried the pair to 41 points.

In perfect conditions for golf, 14 men took to the course to play for the prestigious Presidents Trophy. Thanks very much to Tye Farrar for his sponsorship.

Back at the home of golf this week, there were no excuses for poor results with the course being in great condition.

With Cam Hill being absent this week, there was quite a bit of competition for next weeks winner. Captain Ben and Vice Captain Vic disappeared into the office for a inordinate amount of time and returned with the very dubious and definitely controversial decision that saw Jayson Fuller win the NAGA on a “so called” countback from the two aforementioned Captains.

Next week is the CSBP Trophy. Please note that this has been changed to a 2 person Ambrose. Names in by 12.45pm.

If you are looking to get into golf, a 10 hole Scroungers competition is played every Thursday. This is a fun, social game that is very relaxed. Be at the golf club by 2.15pm to tee off at 2.30pm.
