Greetings all. Needless to say it was a busy night last Tuesday but, thanks to everyone who participated and helped, it ran very smoothly and we got through the program without much delay. So it’s a big thankyou to all our competitors who made it a successful first round of our 120m handicap sprint. The racing was certainly spirited with many surprising the scorers with their prowess. On raw times our fastest overall was John Thompson just shading Matt Kofi, Col Williams and Ryder Dux. I’ll list the finishing order later. Now that we have times for reference, I’ve adopted a standard handicap formula and adjusted the handicaps accordingly. All but three have been re-handicapped with nearly all getting a boost. I’ll post the heats for round 2 later.
I’m getting in early this week as I’m off to Townsville tomorrow, returning Tuesday morning. Will send some pics in shorts and singlet. 😀
Next Tuesday,16/6, our program is:
-1200m walk.
-120m h’cap round 2.
-1500m NOT.
-300m sprint.
-8 laps run/4 laps walk NOT.
See you there.
Cheers, Grant.

3rd=3points, etc.
After three rounds, the six competitors with the lowest scores, having competed in all three preliminary rounds, will contest the final.
-Each of the preliminary rounds will be videoed to assist with placings.
Forward any questions you may have as I’m bound to have missed something, otherwise, I’m looking forward to kicking off our inaugural Croydon masters gift.
Cheerio for now.

Greetings all. A big night again last Tuesday with plenty of participants putting out some hotly contested performances. Great to see Kanya and Ollie back for a run and Dad, Andrew, getting into the sprinting groove pushing the rest of the field a notch faster I think. On the subject of sprinting, I’ve allocated everyone on our list into one of four heats for our 120m handicap first round this week. We’ve had a great response, even better than expected, so the pressure is on the organisers to live up to expectations. I intend to mark out the track handicap distances on Tuesday early afternoon as the forecast looks favourable again. With four heats, this will save a lot of time. The rest of our programme will run as scheduled, hopefully not too much later.
Program for Tuesday 9/6 is:
-1600m NOT walk.
-120m hdcp sprint Rd 1.
-1200m run.
-2 or 3x 200m relay.
-8 laps run/4laps walk.
See you there. I’ll post the heats separately.
Cheers, Grant.

Greetings all. The new week kicks off a new season as Winter begins on Monday. Colder, probably wetter and dark earlier which makes it more important to keep up the physical activity. We had our best attendance for the year last Tuesday which is very encouraging and it definitely makes the events more enjoyable and competitive. Great to welcome Kim Beswick for his first night and showing some pretty good form, as well as Knox regular, David Gall, also setting a good pace in the distance events. We’re always happy to welcome any newcomers at Croydon and we hope you enjoyed your evening with us. Please keep in mind our proposed social night on Friday 19/6 at the Dorset Gardens hotel, thanks to Andrew Egginton for organising.
As mentioned earlier, our new program begins on Tuesday which features our two Winter trophy events. The 120m handicap sprint begins on 9/6 and for the ensuing three weeks with the final on 30/6. This is followed by our 3000m age-graded event which starts on 7/7 for three consecutive weeks. Winners will need to have competed in all rounds for each event. A more detailed description of each event next week. A huge thanks to all our regular taskmasters, Cec, Les, Liz,Gary, Paul, Phyllis and all who chip in when something needs doing. We’re fortunate, if not unique, at Croydon that we don’t need to roster duties weekly thanks to our cohort of quiet achievers.
Next Tuesday, 2/6, our program is:
-1000m walk.
-100m sprint.
-1 mile NOT.
-250m NOT.
-4km run/2km walk NOT.
See you there.
Cheers, Grant.

Greetings all. Thanks and well done again to all who got involved on the track at Croydon last week. It was another busy night with plenty of good performances from many across all our events. We’re still leading the field in the post-competition social and supper stakes too if I’m any judge which is not only very enjoyable but indicative of a great bunch of people. We’re back in action as usual this Tuesday for the last night of our current program. The next three months program is viewable on this site, posted 13/5, Facebook and I have some hard copies at the clubhouse (shed). Col Williams and I have set the handicaps for the first round of the 120m sprint gift which I’ll publish next week before round one on June 9th.
Next Tuesday, 26/5, our program is:
-2x2x400m walk relay.
-70m sprint.
-1100m NOT run.
-260m sprint NOT.
-8 laps run/4 laps walk.
See you there.
Cheers, Grant.

Greetings all. Great turnout last week at Croydon and always good to have some familiar faces return to the track in Nicole and Nasa. Also good to see Pete Shanahan on deck despite his injury issues which we hope you can overcome as quickly as possible. Further thanks to everyone for continually raising the bar in our supper stakes, anecdotally, other venues are getting envious. As the colder weather comes in for a few months, such a diverse choice at the table will be all the more welcome.
The AV cross country season is underway and the great ocean road running events were held over the weekend. If any Croydon members took part, please update us on your feats as there is always interest about any events contested. On that subject, I’ll be visiting Townsville for a little athletics festival over the weekend of 13/14 June. Barring a cyclone, the weather should be good at least. I’ll post a link to the event.
On the home front, our program for this Tuesday 19/5 is:
-1200m walk.
-2x110m sprint relay.
-1500m run.
-300m sprint.
-4km run/2km walk.
It’s not listed but we’ll make the last event an NOT.
Cheers, Grant.
