How many sessions should I do per week?
This has been a super common question over the years - here’s my advice.
We all should be moving our bodies daily.
When you reach the point where you don’t feel right if you haven’t worked out that day –That’s goals.
Moving your body every day and getting your heart rate up should be a nonnegotiable
Obviously life happens and we need to not get stressed if for some reason there are days when we can’t but in general you should be able to fit a workout in every/most days
We have 7 days in a week.
If you’re doing 3 training sessions per week – that’s still not exercising for more than half of your week
So this is where I really say 4+ sessions become a game changer. Strength increases dramatically, fitness increases dramatically, mobility and movement in general improves and rate rates of injury start to dramatically decrease.
The difference between 2 to 3 sessions per week is absolutely huge as well.
When people do 2 training sessions per week it becomes very hard to start to feel fitter and stronger and this is where people will get in the headspace of feeling like they don’t know how people do more sessions than that per week because they feel like 2 sessions is a struggle. But they are staying in that struggle phase because it’s just not frequent enough exercise to really start to make, see and feel noticeable improve improvements
At 3 sessions per week we start to feel like we can see and feel a difference. This really to me is the bare minimum. If you’re not wanting to do more than that of high intensity training then on the other days you at least need to be doing some runs.
It’s the high heart rate, sweaty workouts that get the health outcomes and the physical outcomes we are wanting.
If you have the time to add an extra workout in to your day, this is where things like pilates, yoga, & walking are great for active recovery.
Stretching is a big must - do it while watching TV or even in front of the computer.
But whatever you can fit into your lifestyle - do that. Don’t do less. You don’t need a whole 48hrs to recover, you need a strong body.
