Football on Sydney's Northern Beaches
Collaroy Cromer Strikers Football Club Inc (Strikers) is one of the largest football clubs in the Manly Warringah Football Association (MWFA) district. The Club is committed to promote and develop football (soccer) for all its members (from Under 6s up through sub-junior and junior ranks, into senior ladies and men's competition and through to over-35s divisions). In tandem with the growth of participation of what Pelè called 'the beautiful game' across Australia (wherein more people play football than all the other football codes put together), the Strikers experienced a considerable rise in membership, and growth is forecast to continue. The club is experiencing growth in all ages but especially in the Under 6s, ladies teams in all age groups and over 35s (both mens and ladies). We now field 100 plus teams in competitions organised by the MWFA. But the Strikers go beyond MWFA competitions, with many teams participating in out-of-district gala days, and by organising its own competitions. Strikers host Coerver Coaching Camps with Soccer NSW for young players from throughout the area; stage the Under 9s Strikers Cup, one of Australia's premier events for Under 9s players; and, for many years, a summer six-a-side competition. Based in the suburbs of Collaroy and Cromer, but also incorporating Long Reef, Cromer Heights, Collaroy Plateau and areas of South Narrabeen, the Strikers origins go back beyond its formation at the beginning of 1995, when the Collaroy Plateau Soccer Club and the Cromer Strikers Soccer Club merged. Operating as a division of the Collaroy Plateau Youth Club from 1995, the Strikers became incorporated in its own right as of September 2003.
