Round 7 Wrap: RACV Goldfields - 20/08/2023

Welcome back ladies and gents to the final round of season two of the LPT and what an incredible day it was. a huge thanks to RACV Goldfields and Steven in the pro shop for looking after us on the day. The sun was shining and there was minimal chance of weather. With a late out and a quiet course, the grouping of the day was a 5some which made it all the more enjoyable!

A tough day for most as the course did a lot of the winning over the afternoon, there were glimpses of the excellence that our audience has come to expect from the lads, and an exciting finish with a playoff for 1st and 2nd as well as a playoff for 3rd and 4th had the potential to rock the competition.

Sadly the most cheerful lad on the course came in 5th place on the day and that was our man Jamie Wright. Some hints of class throughout but it was just a difficult course for the higher handicappers to handle. TJ and Dillon met in a playoff for third place which made things very interesting with both players shooting for the coveted championship jacket. Adrenaline was high with both men finding the green and it was Dillon coming in clutch, winning 3rd place in a putt off.

Keegan and Sam played off for the chocolates and while neither were superbly exceptional on the day there were sprinklings of skill enough to get them to the playoff hole. Back to the par 3 tee on the 18th, the first playoff hole resulted in a pair of 4s and another walk down the fairway. Keegan hit a very similar shot to the first playoff hole, but with a glint of confidence and a change of club Sam McCosh hit the shot of the day and stiffed it to 3 feet. His putt would go in for birdie and the 6 points.

A big congratulations to Sam after overcoming mid season injury and clawing his way back onto the winners list in season 2

A well deserved win to close out season 2 of the LPT.

Final Scores (Net): Rd 7

2nd TJ Pitcher - 29
3rd Keegan Byrne - 25

6th Jamie Wright - 22.5

An enormous congratulations to Dillon Byrne, the champion of the LPT for season 2!
Stay tuned for the jacket presentation and an announcement for season 3 of the LPT.

Also, a side note. Apologies for the lack of write ups for rounds 5 and 6. Writers block and a lack of photos and planning hindered efforts to publish a worthy spiel. However it was an enormous pleasure to play both at Anglesea Golf Club where Dillon managed to prevail for the win, and then at Albert Park Colf Course (Dillon's home track) where TJ absolutely starred to take 6 points and put enormous pressure on Dillon coming into the final round.

Thanks to everyone again for the support and bring on season 3!

Round 4 Wrap: Midlands Golf Club - 1/05/2022

Firstly, to the tour members and followers, apologies for the radio silence since the event. We appreciate your patience and without further delay; the wrap.

A cool and overcast day with a slight breeze meant pretty ideal golfing conditions as the boys arrived at the course for Sundays play with all tour members putting in a cracking evenings effort at the Golden Age Hotel with host TJ Pitcher. Pool, punting, and pints were the order of the evening and none were disappointed.

Playing groups for the day consisted of group 1 with Sam, TJ, and Keegan while group 2 followed with Dillon, Trent and Jamie. Rusty as a kombi in a scrapyard the boys set off on what would turn out to be one of the most interesting rounds yet, on tour.

By a significant margin, the most ordinary golfer of the day award goes to Keegan, with close to the worst front 9, and comfortably the most spectacular mental breakdown, the comp has seen. Wrestling a passable back 9 he just barely salvaged a share of last place. A much more consistent, yet equally sub optimal round met Jamie, who claimed the other half of the days wooden spoon.

Though Sam played consistently and managed the course better than most others, bogey golf is still a tough run when playing to single digits. After a good day on an unfamiliar course it was almost cruel to see him relegated to 4th place. Pushing toward another podium finish in 3rd place, was Trent Anderson. Trent continued a fine run of form with another net 70's round capped off by a tremendous birdie on the par 4, 5th.

Dillon seemed to take inspiration from his playing partner Trent and played himself into form after an up and down front 9. It must also be noted that Dillon was comfortably the best dressed on the course and he played like he knew it! A birdie on 11 and a clean run home from there on out landed him comfortably in second place, But today was about the host. A man who initially struggled with the pressure of competition play, pushed aside the mental demons and broke through for his maiden tour win. Completely demolishing his handicap, it was clear that TJ had come to play and play he did. One small stumble on the 6th hole was the only error he made for the day as he stormed home to a 5 stroke victory. It truly must be said that the win was well deserved.

A huge congratulations to TJ on his first win, and a big thanks to Midlands Golf Club for having us as we look forward to round 5 at Albert Park soon.

I felt this video required a separate post and although it is delayed somewhat, a HUGE congrats to Sam McCosh who finally got to don the winners jacket as the inaugural LPT champion. Was stoked to have all our friends there for the presentation!

Round 3 Wrap: Port Fairy Golf Links - 12/12/2021

Picturesque scenes greeted all in attendance this past Sunday with almost perfect conditions for the days play. A fantastic night on Saturday with Sam hosting a Christmas do for the LPT and friends that last well into the morning. After much delay we were finally able to award Sam the coveted gold jacket as the inaugural winner of the LPT championship.

Playing groups for the day consisted of group 1 with Trent, TJ, and Jamie while group 2 followed with Sam, Dillon, and Keegan. With the coolers stocked and clubs at the ready on what can only be described as a truly spectacular Sunday morning the lads teed up and we were off once again.

Beginning the day by hitting some absolute bombs off the tee Sam played well throughout the round, but playing to the lowest handicap in the party, was always going to be tough with conditions conducive to good golf for all abilities. Sam finished the day in 6th place on the home track. Similarly to Sam, Keegan began the day by driving well, finding fairways at long distance and managed some impressive golf on the way out, but some well placed banter in the playing group and some genuinely awful bunker play resulted in a capitulation of the grandest proportions on the back 9 landing him in equal 4th tied with Dillon.

Dillons round was a rollercoaster of emotions as Pars and even a birdie backed on to double and triples in a one step forward two steps back scenario. Some masterful play on the 10th made for an incredible spectacle as he carded a net eagle however the ups and downs were difficult to overcome and a tie for 4th was the end result. Tj managed a career best 3rd place finish as he played comfortably his best competitive round to date. Striking the ball well with only minor slip ups through out the day. Putting was reportedly a strong point as he recovered from some trouble on the dance floor in Warrnambool.

Jamie played some inspired golf to charge home in 2nd place for the days play. Consistent from tee to green he had a couple minor slip ups on holes 5 and 14 but managed to recover well in the following holes to make a very, very competitive round. Finishing the day strongly on hole 18 Jamie was a deserved second place getter. However it was a truly masterful display from the now 3 time event winner Trent Anderson that secured the win with some exceptionally consistent golf netting him a resounding victory. Not even an out of bounds drive on the final hole of the day was enough to dull the significant lead he had accumulated throughout the days play. Looking on, it was his short game that crowned him champ as 1 and 2 putts dropped on nearly every hole, particularly numbers 10 and 11 where Trent really found form.

A massive congratulations to Trent on his third win as we look forward to round 4 at Beaufort in the coming weeks.

Round 2 Wrap: Warrnambool - 14/11/2021

Don't let the blue skies in the picture fool you ladies and gentleman. The triumphant return of the LPT after almost 5 months away, was met by 40km/h winds and sideways rain. To play good golf was going to be a difficult ask on a truly spectacular, yet challenging golf course.

First time LPT weekend host, Jamie Wright, was keen to impress in the duties and didn't disappoint, putting on a magnificent spread for both dinner and breakfast (with some hired help, thanks Chels). Leaving the host residence full and warm it was time to embrace the elements. With groups for play decided with the ball toss, Sam, Tj, Jamie took to the tee in group one and set the pace all day. Group two consisting of Keegan, Trent, and Fillon brought up the rear.

The tone of the round was certainly set early and it was a day for lost balls for most, with the wind and terrain making even basic shots challenging. Working hard all day despite carding some large numbers was TJ Pitcher who finished in 6th place. All credit to him though, as the mood never soured as he seemed to enjoy being on the course no matter the score. Jamie claimed 5th spot as the conditions wreaked havoc on the less experienced players in the party. Glimpses of what he is capable of poked through but the unforgiving course had claimed another victim.

Two-in-a-row event winner Trent Anderson finished a gallant 4th, pushing through a recent injury and playing a strong contender for shot of the day. A plugged-in-the-wall bunker lie with 70+ degrees of loft required to clear the lip, a confident swing and perfect contact saw Trent hit the green in an all time play. Dillon managed 3rd place in a brave but ultimately up and down performance. Losing a ball on the first but also draining the subsequent putt from long range set the tone for his day and despite stringing together some great holes, couldn't overcome the harsh conditions.

Keegan took to the wet like a duck to water and played a comfortable front 9, looking particularly good on the greens to begin, however the wheels began to wobble. The back 9 saw a number of poor holes and, as the rain cleared, the self proclaimed "wet weather specialist" dried up as well. But it was the veteran, the single digit man himself, Sam McCosh who took the top step on Sunday with one of the most impressively consistent rounds we've seen in, comfortably, the worst weather conditions the LPT has encountered in it's history. The difference between his best and worst holes was one stroke and it was that consistency that earned him the full points.

Congrats to Sam on a masterful round and to all the boys on another fantastic event. We now look forward to round 3, location and date to be announced very soon.

Round 1 Wrap: Colac Golf Club - 20/06/2021

Welcome back ladies and gents to season two of the LPT and what an incredible day it was. Sun shining and minimal chance of weather. The ball toss to select groups found TJ, reigning champion Sam and Keegan running in group 1 and Jamie, Dillon and final round winner Trent bring up group two.

A promising start for Keegan quickly went to ground as the front nine put him out of contention early, finishing 4th despite coming home strong on the back 9. Sam played gallantly all day but needed to play to a difficult handicap on a challenging course which resulted in a 3rd place finish overall. TJ surprised all with a short game full of pure class, however a tough day off the tee saw him finish in 6th place on debut.

Dillon put together a turbulent performance. A mix of excellent stroke play coupled with frustrating misses to finish in 5th place. A contrast to Jamie who on debut played well enough to give himself the chance to putt for a play off hole. Missing the cup by mere centimeters Jamie managed an excellent 2nd place.

Bringing up group two and chalking up his second LPT win with a stunning net 79 was Trent Anderson. Draining a long putt on 8 and never looking off since, Trent’s wedge play in particular set up an exciting win for the 2nd year player.

A well deserved win as we now await round two.
