BEWARE ⚠️ THERE IS SO MUCH GARBAGE OUT THERE !!
A roundhouse isn't determined by whether the knee reaches some arbitrary horizontal "correct" chamber.
The actual kick is the outcome of the entire movement chain.
This changes with target location, distance, hip mobility, support-leg position and rotation, ankle mobility, balance, intended impact surface, and the angle you want the leg to travel through!!!
You can absolutely hit the same target with different chamber positions.
An experienced martial artist can bring the knee more vertically, laterally, diagonally, or barely show a conventional chamber at all.
This also changes on whether they're throwing a Karate mawashi geri, Muay Thai-style round kick, question-mark variation, close-range kick, body kick, head kick, etc....
Another key aspect is height of target and hip mobility.
I have seen kids with insane hip mobility hit without even turning their supporting foot.
When applying a roundhouse kick if the supporting foot and ankle can't accommodate the rotation, the body has to find that rotation elsewhere.
The pelvis, trunk and kicking hip then compensate.
Furthermore, there isn't some neurological rule saying:
low/angled chamber = incorrect
Or
horizontal chamber = correct
Thats just BS.
Motor-control research generally points in almost the opposite direction!
For instance humans solve movement problems using different joint configurations depending on the individual, environment and task.
Good coaching gives the athlete a movement outcome and relevant constraints, rather than forcing everyone into an identical photograph.
I see this problem in karate , TKD, Muai Thai etc rigid style based nonsense.
When you consider the body is different for everyone then you understand those text book bs doesnt apply.
If you are struggling to kick...your roundhouse is affected by:
1- Hip mobility and rotation
2- Support-foot / ankle mobility
3- Target height and position
4- Distance from the target
5- Balance and posture
6- Intended kicking surface
There is no single "correct" chamber angle.
And the funniest part of this graphic both people could kick the target.
The picture doesn't establish that the left-hand kick is mechanically ineffective at all. Rather that old school style based mentality is broken 💔....
