150 CLUB GAMES🔴⚪️⚫️

This weekend we celebrate a fantastic milestone as James “Jimmy” Chalmers pulls on the Cowwarr jumper for the 150th time. Arriving at Cowwarr over 15 years ago as a fresh-faced 18-year-old, Jimmy has become one of the club’s most valued and respected football people. Throughout his playing career, he has always been the coach’s go-to player, willing to play wherever the team needed him – whether that be in the backline, forward line, midfield or even in the ruck. Now leading our Reserves as coach, Jimmy continues to make a huge impact on the club. His football knowledge, leadership and high football IQ have been on full display this season, with the Reserves currently undefeated. Congratulations Jimmy, thank you for your dedication, commitment and service to the club over so many years!❤️🤍🖤

🔴⚪️⚫️HOLLONDS-KOMEN CUP🔵⚪️🏆

Heyfield will host Cowwarr this Saturday where both clubs will compete for the Hollonds - Komen Cup.

The Cup was an initiative struck in honour of two individuals who made extraordinary contributions to their clubs and the game, favourite sons Pat Komen and Andrew ‘Angry’ Hollonds who both tragically passed away prior to the 2009 season.

Andrew ‘Angry’ Hollonds career with Cowwarr spaned over 20 years, as a junior through to senior player.

Hollonds first pulled the boots on for the Saints as a 17 year old in the thirds competition where he played some 17 games, before becoming a member of the seniors and reserves list.

The competitiveness and determination of Hollonds saw him claim his first accolade in his debut football winning runners up in Cowwarr’s thirds best and fairest.

This become the first of many awards for the defender, with one of the more memorable seeing him claim the club best and fairest award in the reserves competition in 1990 playing from the back pocket.

Angry was always willing to help out with whatever needed doing around the club and was a valued committee member for many years.

Awarded life membership in 2005, Hollonds career saw him play at all levels of the game with the majority of his career (264) games played at reserve level with the Angry Saint breaking the clubs games record in 2008. Angry's boots have remained in the Cowwarr change rooms since 2008 and will continue to have pride of place in the rooms in honour of the great clubman.

The Hollonds - Komen Cup is contested each season during the first meeting of the two sides, the winner based on the results of the three football and six netball games, in the event of a tie the winner of the senior match will claim the Cup.

This weekend we will be looking to play each game with Angry's signature determination, courage and commitment to the Warr and bring the cup home for Angry. Angry’s footy boots are still hanging in the change rooms and serve as a reminder to all, that you should play every game like it could be your last.❤️🤍

It is with heavy hearts, we share the sad news of the passing of both Maureen and Bob Mulvogue.

Maureen Mulvogue first joined the committee in 1994 and was instrumental in getting our centenary celebrations underway for 1995. She wrote a book called Saints and Sinners and launched it in 1995 for the centenary. 1995 was Maureen’s first year as Secretary of the club, a position she held for 6 years as well as being secretary of the centenary committee. She was a very good author who had another book published on the history of the Cowwarr township. She would often pen a poem regarding any subject that she thought would entertain the club supporters, often appearing in the “Saint” the clubs weekly newsletter. Maureen was also a very talented artist and she painted a portrait of Ted and Pauline Jones original farmhouse and presented it them on Ted’s retirement to Bairnsdale. Maureen will always be remembered for her willingness to step up and fill any position that was required around the club. Rest in peace, Maureen.

Bob Mulvogue bought the Cowwarr Store in 1985 and was very soon involved in the Cowwarr Football Netball Club. When the seniors won the 1987 grand final Bob set up a bbq outside the front of his shop and served all the recovering players with egg and bacon sandwiches. Bob served on the committee for many years and was the timekeeper for 10 years before passing the clock over to his son Byron. Bob who was a bricklayer by trade was instrumental in bricking up our current social rooms and many other projects around the recreation reserve. Known for his wonderful sense of humour “Bob Shop” would help out with various other activities including training and rubdowns. While he was running the store he was a very welcome sponsor. Bob’s wife Maureen passed away last week and unfortunately Bob who was ill passed away a week later. Both will be sadly missed. Our condolences go out to their three children and their extended families.❤️🤍🖤

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Lee Moran. Lee Moran was a tireless worker for the Cowwarr Football Netball Club over many years. She was club secretary for three years 1990,91 and 92. She also worked for the ladies committee for over 15 years in the canteen and catering for finals at neighbouring clubs. Lee was the resident disc jockey at numerous social club events and is fondly remembered for her renditions of the Nutbush. The Moran house was the hub of many social occasions and Lee was the perfect hostess known for her fabulous cooking. Her son Ray played in our inaugural thirds team in 1984 and her daughter Jennie played netball for Cowwarr over a number of years. Our thoughts go out to Lindsay, Ray, Jennie and their extended families.❤️🤍🖤
