Day 7 and the final day of our mini expedition. We had had our quickest pack up for the trip - the goal each day was to be ready to go by 8:30am. We were ready to rock n roll by 8:05am. While we were getting better at this, the prospect of hot showers and fresh clothes might have been a contributing factor…

It was a short day and before we know it we were back at Finsehytta, enjoying those hot showers. It had been an incredible experience. I am so grateful to Hannah our guide and trainer and to my amazing adventure buddies Lucy and Noah.

Before leaving we had agreed how we would show up as a team (the key words) and our mission (the last two pics). We nailed it. Partic number 2 on our mission - have fun. I did, big time. So many laughs.

I also learnt so much and gained skills and confidence when it comes to polar expeditions. At least enough confidence to do the next part of my polar prep…. So grateful

Day 6 of our mini expedition and it was stunning. We were ahead of schedule and it was a lovely day, so were able to have longer breaks and enjoy the views.

As a team we were also getting better - quicker camp set up/pack down - knowing what needed to be done without anything needing to be said. We were getting into the groove of things and confidence building as we picked our way over the passes and across the frozen lakes and landscape.

And most importantly the laughter continued - I haven’t laughed this much in a long time!

Day 5 - perfection! Where we had camped had the most stunning backdrop and we woke up to a perfect sunny day. Having put in some long days we were getting ahead of schedule so had time to stop and enjoy the view and take some pics.

Day 2 of our mini expedition - the sun was out and wind dropped. It was beautiful. We even got to turn our pulks into toboggans - so much fun!

We started getting into the groove of things:
- up at 6:30am, brush the frost off the inside of the tent, have brekkie, pack up
- aim for an 8:30am start for the first 60min ‘march’ followed by a 15min break to eat and drink
- repeat this to total 6 or 7 ‘marches’
- Put up the tents, dig out a toilet, eat, drink and then go to bed

We covered over 18km which was good going. And it was such a stunning day in these incredible mountains - was ready for bed by then end though!

As shared in my last post we needed a lot of snacks for our 7 day mini expedition to make up the required calories.
I brought some with me - specifically chocolate. Two reasons:
1. I absolutely love it - the peanut butter one is my favourite
2. It’s ethically sourced. Their mission is to eradicate child labour from the cocoa industry and take kids from working in the cocoa fields into classrooms.
It’s estimated the 1.56 million children are involved in illegal farming activities.
Part of the mission of Pole to Pole is to help increase awareness of modern slavery like this, raise funds for organisations helping to combat this growing issue and share ways we can all make a difference with the choices we make.
