After a few years as Hobies Sports Store, things have changed a little — but I’m still here and still doing what I enjoy.

Hobies Bike Shed is now focused on keeping bikes and riders moving throughout the Upper Murray.

I’m based in Khancoban NSW and servicing the Upper Murray and surrounding areas.

A big thank you to everyone who supported Hobies Sports Store over the years. I really appreciate it, and I look forward to continuing to look after old customers — and hopefully meeting plenty of new ones along the way.

Tomorrow, Saturday 21st Feb, is the last day Hobies will be trading. Don't forget to pop in and grab yourself a bargain. We prefer to not have to pack it up. Everything needs to go. Open Today 9-4 and tomorrow 9-12.

Hobies will be closing the doors on Saturday 21st February, 2026.

Holy carp! We know most freshwater anglers do the right thing however this wasn’t the case for a man last week near Nathalia.

Fisheries Officers were out patrolling Broken Creek in kayaks when they came across several setlines baited with live carp.
Carp are classified as noxious and can’t be used as live bait or returned to the water alive, and setlines have been illegal for years!

A man was subsequently inspected and is alleged to have had live carp on his rods, along with approximately 17 live carp in his possession.

Given the risk of the man’s fishing activity spreading carp to other Victorian waters, officers proceeded to inspect his property where they located a large seine net, and several setlines like those observed in Broken Creek.

The man will receive fines of more than $2000 for possessing live noxious aquatic species, using carp as live bait, and possessing commercial fishing equipment without authorisation.

If you’re desperate to fish a river somewhere for a trout this winter, we have good news!
There are a handful of rivers that remain open year-round in southwestern Victoria: Hopkins River, Merri River, Moyne River, and Mt Emu Creek.
Research has found that trout don’t effectively spawn in these 4 waterways, so a closed season serves no purpose.
We’ve also learned that these rivers are highly productive and provide our stocked trout with plenty of food to grow big.
There’s plenty of them too, thanks to our Snobs Creek hatchery team, which has stocked over 600,000 brown trout into these rivers over the last decade.
