This week and next: Isometric Strength (paused reps)

For the next two weeks, we move into the second phase of our triphasic training block: two weeks of isometric training.

Over the last two weeks, we’ve focused on the eccentric phase…controlling the weight as we lower it. Now we’re adding a deliberate pause to our main lifts.
You’ll lower the weight under control, pause in a specific position, then drive out with intent.

Why the pause?

We’ll generally pause around a challenging point in the movement. Holding this position under load increases muscular tension and helps develop strength, control and stability where you need it most.
Isometric training can also be a useful way to expose muscles and connective tissues to load while improving your ability to maintain good positions under tension.

In simple terms: we’re not just trying to lift more weight; we’re teaching your body to be stronger and more controlled throughout the movement.

We don’t yell and scream for you to work harder.

Instead, we encourage, use positivity, and understand your limits to achieve the best results and outcomes...and have a good ol time while doing it.

BEST way to boost your health after 40?

Real talk: we're strength-first here... that's where the bulk of the hour goes. But we're not anti-cardio…every session has 10-15 min built in to get the heart rate up too. It's not either/or, it's about getting the dose right.

If you had to choose one, what would it be? ❤️ for Strength Training, 👍 for Cardio

If you DON't want to;
🔹Improve Stability
🔹Improve Balance
🔹Improve Bone Strength
🔹Get Stronger and...
🔹Stop Muscle Loss

Then we're NOT the right fit.

💥 Why Are We Throwing Medicine Balls Before Bench Pressing?

At first glance, it might seem a little backwards.
"Shouldn't we lift the heavy weight first?"

Actually... there's a method behind it.
This training block introduces contrast training—pairing an explosive movement with a heavy strength exercise.

In this scenario, this means:🏐 Kneeling Medicine Ball Chest Pass➡️ Followed by🏋️ Bench Press

The explosive movement acts as a primer for your nervous system. In sports science, this is known as Post-Activation Performance Enhancement (PAPE).

By performing a fast, powerful movement first, your body becomes more prepared to produce force during the lift that follows.
The benefits can include:✅ Better motor unit recruitment (more muscle working together)✅ Faster force production✅ Improved power output✅ Greater quality on every rep✅ Potentially greater long-term strength gains

Think of it like revving the engine before putting your foot down.

The goal isn't simply to lift heavier today—it's to teach your body to become stronger and more explosive.
Whether you're chasing a heavier squat, improving your golf swing, running faster, jumping higher, or simply wanting to move better as you age, the ability to produce force quickly is one of the most valuable physical qualities you can develop.
At Perform360, every exercise has a purpose.

This block is about building strength that transfers to real life—not just strength that looks good on paper.
Train with intent. Move with power.

Some stories deserve to be shared. ❤️

When Helen first walked through the doors at Perform360, she was absolutely terrified.
There wasn't even a session running at the time. The gym was quiet, and we'll never forget the look on her face. As she says in this video...
"I was petrified."

And she really was.

Helen had never stepped foot in a gym before. Like so many people, she wondered if she'd fit in, if she'd be able to do it, and if she belonged.

Fast forward to today...
💪 456 training sessions since August 2022.💪 Back squat improved from an estimated 1RM of 46kg to 64kg.💪 Stronger, more confident, and able to enjoy everyday life with greater ease.

But the numbers only tell part of the story.
Helen has become one of our biggest advocates. She proudly recommends Perform360 to anyone who asks what's changed her life, and there is no greater compliment than that.

Hearing her say, "It's the best decision I've ever made," means the world to our coaching team.
If you've been thinking about starting but you're feeling nervous... know that Helen felt exactly the same.
Everyone starts somewhere.

Sometimes the hardest step is simply walking through the door. ❤️

Thank you, Helen, for trusting us, for inspiring our community, and for showing that it's never too late to become stronger.

Every stair you climb requires single-leg strength.
That's why we train heavy step-ups.
The ability to produce force through one leg is critical for balance, mobility, fall prevention, and maintaining independence as we age.
What looks like a tough gym exercise today could be the reason you're still taking the stairs with confidence at 90.
