SPOT THE BALL.

One mystery A grade player (lets call him Ben 😎) was recently spotted chipping onto the 18th green.

Can you guess where his ball is in this frame?

Every golfer shouts it without thinking, but 'fore' almost certainly did not start on a golf course at all. 🏌️

The most widely accepted origin traces back to military language, specifically the term 'beware before,' shortened over time to 'before' to warn foot soldiers that artillery was about to fire over their heads.

Early Scottish golfers, many of whom had military backgrounds or trained alongside artillery units, are believed to have borrowed the same warning to alert people ahead of an incoming shot, and the shortened version stuck permanently to the game.

It has been used on golf courses for well over a century now, so completely absorbed into the sport that most players today have no idea it started as a battlefield warning and a word this common usually feels like it was always just part of the game.

So, next time you hit that wayward shot and yell 'fore' at the group in front, you're playing a small part in golf history. 😀😆

Get to know our course - the 13th hole.

Unique. Crazy. Weird. Awesome. Tricky. Deceiving. Tough. Signature. Amazing.

Just some of the words used to describe this short Par 4 hole by golfers over the years.

Because, for what it lacks in length, it makes up in character, and anything but perfectly executed shots just won't cut it if you want to shoot par or better.

The 13th is a 90 degree dogleg which demands a well placed tee shot to the 'bend of the elbow' which will then permit a clear shot to the green. The putting surface is guarded by a lake in front, with swales and out of bounds behind. At only 250 metres from the tips, this is our shortest Par 4, but don't let that fool you, as this hole is tough to master.

What's your tip for how to best play this hole?

Spring is here and the lakes and waterways around the course are full of flowering water plants in bloom at the moment.

So, if you can't manage to avoid the water, at least when you're losing balls during your round, there's something pretty to look at… 😩😭😂

THE UNWRITTEN RULES OF 'PLAYING THROUGH'

If the group behind you has been waiting on every shot for three holes straight… it is probably time.

There is an art to playing through in golf. Everyone acts casual, but the pressure instantly becomes enormous. You could have been hitting it great all day, but the second four strangers stop and watch you hit a tee shot, your swing suddenly feels foreign.

The unwritten rule is simple: if someone lets you play through, you owe them one solid golf shot. Not perfection. Just enough contact to avoid embarrassment.

Another rule: do not spend five minutes deciding on a club while people wait behind you. Grab something, swing, and keep moving. Nobody expects PGA Tour golf. They just want pace.

And if you absolutely stripe it? Act humble. Do not celebrate like you just won the Masters. A quiet club twirl or nod is the maximum allowed reaction.

But if you top it 40 metres…
Everyone involved must pretend it did not happen.
The waiting group will immediately say something supportive like:
“Still in play.”
“Got a good angle from there.”
“Course is tough today.”
Golf etiquette is basically a social contract built around protecting each other from humiliation.

Another unwritten rule: The group playing through should move quickly afterward. Nothing hurts more than letting a group through… only to sit behind them for the next four holes while they read putts from every angle imaginable.

And finally:
If somebody waves you through, always say thank you.
Because deep down, every golfer knows the same truth:
One slow group can ruin a round…
But one respectful interaction can completely change the vibe of the day.

Good Golfing!
