I was very proud to present Neil
brown with his Yugo Ryu Jiu-Jitsu Yellow Belt last week. Neil trained all last year but missed grading. And one thing and another lead to delays to make this happen earlier this year. Regardless it’s done now.

I have one spot left for my next European Sword Seminar on Saturday 23rd of May. (Yup. This Saturday)
Now whilst it is t Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, this seminar is an example of a late 16th Century Italian Sword Martial Art.
“Italian Sidesword of Angelo Viggiani” will cover aspects of the single hand, cut & thrust sword work which was the staple of civilian self defence.

Tonight I set up the mats in the Jindabyne 1st Kosciusko Scout Hall for the last time. Next term Yugo Ryu Jiu-Jitsu will be running classes out of the Jindabyne Memorial Hall
I would like to extend my most sincere thanks to 1st Kosciusko Scouts for their friendship and support over the last couple of years, allowing Yugo Ryu to grow.
Tonight was also the last class for Term 1 of 2026. Three Dojo’s going strong.
Have a safe and happy Easter and school holidays and I’ll see you all back on the mats in a couple of weeks.

Hey Folks.
Well, as Yugo Ryu Jiu-Jitsu continues to grow, so does our needs.
So I would like to announce that of of this week, Friday 27 Feb 2026, that Yugo Ryu Cooma Dojo will be moving to the old Hall in Monaro High School.
I would like to thank Monaro High School for this opportunity.
I would also like to sincerely thank 1st Cooma Scouts for giving Yugo Ryu Jiu-Jitsu a home for the last two years. We greatly appreciate the support and the opportunity to grow and provide such a valuable contribution to the community.
For those looking for the hall, simply pull into the car park/loading dock besides the new PAC Theatre off of Mittagang Rd near the pedestrian crossing.

It is with great pride and honour that I present to you the very first recipient of “The Andy Whitfield: Heart of the Warrior Scholarship”, Carter Harris.
Carter and his mum have been through much adversity over the last few years. But through his martial arts training Carter has not only endured, but has risen. This award isn’t about martial prowess. It’s about personal growth. Out Yugo Ryu saying is “Building better people with Courage and Honour”. And Carter has shown immense Courage and Honour in the last two years, from a shy, angry kid, to a young man that has applied for, and got, a school leadership program, to a young man that has completely changed his eating habits, from a troubled soul that is now a daily help and support to him mum, and a generous and given martial arts partner on the mats.
I am very proud of the young man Carter is becoming, the kind of man that Andy would have been proud of too.
It is a great honour to present him with this award.

It is with an immense amount of pride and honour that I can announce that this year Yugo Ryu Jiu-Jitsu will be beginning a yearly program and will award one student with the “Andy Whitfield: Heart of the Warrior Scholarship”.
For those that don’t know who Andy was, let me define who this man was and what he represented.
Andy was a dear friend of mine and an amazing talent in the entertainment world. Most well known for his portrayal of Spartacus in the Starz TV series ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’.
Andy was the most incredibly giving and supportive friend, generous of his time, his love, his knowledge, his life.
But it was when Andy was diagnosed with cancer that the true essence of the man became evident.
Throughout the greatest of adversity Andy faced his challenge with dignity, courage and honour. Right up until the day he lost that battle.
Andy has ever since been an inspiration to me to try to live a better life. To be a better man. To make the world a better place.
Therefore I am so honoured to announce this award with the support of his wife Vashti.
In the coming weeks I will be adding the name of the first recipient of this award and I will let you know more then.
In honour of Andy (and “Until we meet again in the afterlife my Brother”) and on behalf of Yugo Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, I present,
“The Andy Whitfield: Heart of the Warrior Scholarship”.
