Women and Strength Training MYTH # 1
Lifting Weights Will Make You Bulky.

A common misconception that Strength training (Lifting Weights) will make you look like a body builder. This is far from the truth. Women naturally produce less Testosterone than men which makes it naturally harder to grow bulky muscles.
Women Getting Stronger and moving better now and later in life requires increasing muscle mass. A lean and toned physique actually means visible muscle and a lower body fat %.
Increasing muscle mass will increase metabolism. Combine this with with proper nutrition that focuses on protein intake and we burn calories longer.
Strength training increases bone density reducing the risk of Osteoporosis in the future

Happy Women’s Health Week 💪🏻🏋🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️ 1-5 September 2025 - a timely reminder for all women to prioritise their own health & wellbeing with this year’s theme “Say YES to you!”.

Women are usually the rock of their families. Working a job as well as managing a household whilst balancing the needs of partners, kids, aging parents and wrangling the pets.

This week is a reminder to all you incredible women to pause and breath and evaluate your wellbeing needs to say yes to yourself! Lock in that walk or run - commit to reading that book you were recommended - book a health check or a massage or just sit in the sun with your bare feet grounded on the grass or sand 🏖️.

It’s never too late to start building muscle - you just have to start - strength training is the King of all exercise especially after the age of 30 when you’re current muscle mass starts decreases at approximately 3–8% per decade!!😬. That rate of decline is even higher after the age of 60! 🫤. This involuntary loss of muscle mass, strength, and function is a fundamental cause and major contributor to disability in older people. Think hip fractures - loss of balance - loss of full range joint mobility which equates to not living life to it’s fullest in your 50’s 60’s 70’s and 80’s - there too much of the World to see and you can’t see it from an armchair, hospital bed or 6ft under ☠️🪦!

Cardio and body weight exercises just don’t cut it after a relatively short period of time - why? Because our bodies are smart - it adapts quickly - so the only way to force muscle to grow is to work your body under load - that’s what strength training does! It signals our body to start protein synthesis which means it tells our body to start laying down new muscle fibre and bone.

We specialise is group strength training - we have a minimum class size so we can check your technique & movement patterns when working under load to keep you injury free.

We have a dedicated area for our interval training with a strength space out the back. Our members know when the roller door goes up out there that a killer session is about to go down😉

We want to see our members thrive in life & that’s why we focus on strength and technique because fitness & increased mobility are the life saving byproducts of strength training! Strength training is King when it comes to fat loss!

Our instructors keep their extensive knowledge current by being educated by the best - Sebastian Oreb and Hattie Boydle - RehabFX - just to mention a few. That’s why we are able to modify any workout to each individual’s ability & mobility.
