29/08 stroke event off the white tees has been won and done by none other than "Mr Lance (boof) Jennings" showing the rest of field how to play solid consistent golf once again. While others struggled on the slower greens yesterday, BOOF found it all to easy and couldn't understand why the field couldn't find the bottom of the cup. 2nd and 3rd place was tight but Aaron Hobbs ( who had a great opportunity to take
Down the president in a long running side bet, but choked on the back 9😜) taking it on count back from Paul Humphries. Was great to see one of newest members DAVID working hard to get his handicap back after many years in hiatus from the game.

The Cooktown District Community Centre braved the course in ideal weather, fashion disasters were the real winners 🚨. It's fantastic to see local businesses and groups dusting off their skills, not just to back our club but also to let loose and experience everything our community has to offer.

August Medal results. With our travelling crew back after flying the flag for COOKTOWN GC at "city of cairns" and "Atherton" OPENS, the August medal in true cooktown links conditions was too much of a challenge for some and a nice return home for others.

Taking out the Mens medal was our Pres with a tidy 66 with Devo (having to resort back to the bridesmaid status with the Presidents return to competition 🤣) with a tidy 69.

August womens champ was our fearless secretary Tanya Stewart although her playing partner Cherie Jerome ( awesome to see you out on the course in a comp) had her under pressure and will soon be out there to catch her and start taking titles off her.

Once again a HUGE SHOUTOUT TO Sovereign Resort Hotel for their ongoing support for our monthly medals. We appreciate you and all our loyal sponsors through the year.

Today's tourney was a PAR-ty! With Paul "humpy" Humphries showing the mini-me's how to tackle the links like a boss. What was shaping up to be a birdie bonanza got even better with the weather gods smiling down. And HUMPY didn't just dip his toes in the win column, he OWNED it and snagged NTP on 14. 1st: Paul Humphries +1, 2nd: Devo Butler and Aaron Hobbs -2.

⛳ Cooktown Golf Club July Monthly Medal ⛳

With the vibe from the biggest on and off the course Cooktown Open in recent times still lingering, the course itself has also had a couple of weeks of recovery time, especially the greens.

With the wind down, blue skies overhead and conditions looking about as friendly as Cooktown gets, it all seemed set up for some good scoring.

But, alas, the Cooktown course had other ideas 😅

Only three players in the field managed to break nett 70, with the July Sovereign Resort Hotel Monthly Medal turning into a good battle between Devo “I Want My Money Back” Butler and Brent “Bridesmaid Emeritus” Hetaraka.

And yes, finally, Devo returned to something closer to his multiple Cooktown Open winning, Honour Board name appearing form, turning the tide and getting one over the Cooktown Open Winner in waiting, Prez 😜

Devo held on to take the win and claim the July Sovereign Resort Hotel Monthly Medal, with Brent close behind and Darren Powell hot on their heels, only just falling short.

As we saw the return to the top of the podium, and the bragging rights, in the Men’s, we also saw a breakout moment in the Women’s, with Tanya Stewart claiming the Women’s Medal after a very solid and consistent round 🏆

Best of luck to our crew teeing off at the FNQ OPEN this weekend - because they're going to need it after last weekend's heroic efforts. Keep the momentum going, or at least try not to keep it too far out of sight. No doubt Brent Hetaraka, Paul Sperring, Darren Powell, and Jamie Dobson (yeah, we still claim you) will crush it.
