Super proud of our team for showing great performances at our first competition of the year!

I hope all the tough, repetitive training leading up to this gave you a chance to really see how much you’ve improved. And for anything that didn’t go the way you wanted—just means there’s even more to grow next time, which makes the next challenge even more exciting.

UNSW Blue Award winners, Vanessa and Ryan.

We’re proud to share some great news from our dojang.
Vanessa (2026) and Ryan (2024) have each received the UNSW Blue Award through Taekwondo.

Both have trained with us since primary school and have represented Australia at the World University Games. Their consistent performances in national and international competitions led to this recognition—one of the highest sporting honors at the university.

I am so proud of these students for receiving such a meaningful award.
In the fiercely competitive world of sport, they continue to carry themselves with composure and smiles. They are warm, kind, and humble toward others, while also showing leadership and setting a great example for their peers and juniors. Watching them grow into outstanding individuals is one of the greatest joys of being a coach.
Beyond these two, I am fortunate to have many more wonderful students. As a coach, running this dojang and witnessing my students grow in the right way brings me deep joy and gratitude.

Lastly, thank you to the friends and coaches .chung for supporting and helping their journey.

Fun fact: Vanessa and Ryan are the first female and male Blue Award recipients from the UNSW Taekwondo Club. 😄

Our Term 4 grading has been successfully completed! All of our students did their very best and showed great improvement, earning wonderful results. As they move on to the next level of training, we hope they continue to grow stronger, more confident, and more mature as Taekwondo practitioners.

Today, our dojang held its black belt promotion test, where our students had the honor of being evaluated by our Grand Master Yang (King Tiger Taekwondo)
Through this promotion, we welcomed 15 new black belts, 4 newly promoted 2nd-dan practitioners, and 1 new 3rd-dan black belt.

To earn a black belt in our dojang, students must undergo an intense evaluation—a 2–4 km run, 80–120 push-ups and squats, rigorous physical conditioning, poomsae, sparring, breaking, and even a written essay. It is a truly demanding process, and every candidate is pushed to their limits.

To all the students who successfully passed every part of the test: congratulations, and well done. Your hard work, perseverance, and spirit have brought you to this moment.

As you move forward, I hope you will lead by example as the next generation of leaders in our dojang—upholding our traditions, strengthening our culture, and inspiring those who follow.

Proud of every one of you. 🥋🔥
