Massey Park women bring home the Western Districts 1 trophy!
Massey Parkโs Western Districts 1 team finished the season off in style by beating title holders, Cabramatta in the final match of the competition 4.5/.5 at Brighton Lakes last Friday to bring home the trophy for the first time since 2019.
This final match could not have been scripted any better with title holders Cabramatta leading the table followed by Massey Park a point behind. So it was a winner takes it all scenario. On a cold, showery, overcast day, Massey Park showed the determination that had been present all competition keeping their nerve in many see sawing matches which could have gone either way. All matches went down to a nerve wracking final 2 holes.
Jill Smith was first match to finish with a 2up win, followed by Menna Davies, a 2/1 win. So we needed one more win for the trophy & Judy Nipperess narrowly missed a putt ton 18th to give us our 3 win, but her squared result edged us closer. Lea Wright with a monster putt on 18th to win her match, 2 up, gave us an unassailable lead with Fang Yuan putting the icing on the cake with a 3/1 win.
The team won 5 of the 6 matches with all 10 squad members playing their part in the victory. A big thank you to all the caddies that came and supported the players โ it made such a difference and highlighted the great team spirit that we have at Massey Park.
Massey Park womenโs Grade Team remain in GNSW Grade 3
Our Grade team, though they did not win their final match at Royal Sydney, won enough games to ensure they remain in GNSW Grade 3 next year. A positive outcome after a tough Pennant, playing off scratch against many single figure handicappers. Again many thanks to the caddies and to Ulla Wood who managed and captained the team, each week working out strategies to keep the team in the hunt.
