Nuclear-Free Collective

Nuclear-Free Collective The Radioactive Exposure Tour is running for now over 30 years.

Friends of the Earth's Nuclear-Free Collective has been working creatively against the nuclear industry for over 35 years, because of its treatment to indigenous people and its serious, long-term, environmental and social impacts. Keep updated and register for the Tour on our blog http://radioactivetour.com/

With rising petrol costs disproportionately affecting First Nations communities, particularly those in remote regions, the cost of getting mob to this year's ANFA Gathering in regional South Australia will be significant. We are asking for donations to support the transport and travel expenses to help these representatives make it to the meeting.

What is ANFA?
Formed in 1997, the Australian Nuclear Free Alliance brings together Aboriginal people and relevant civil society groups concerned about existing or proposed nuclear developments in Australia, particularly on Aboriginal homelands. The late Uncle Kevin Buzzacott was a co-founder and first president of ANFA, a position now held by Aunty Sue Coleman-Haseldine.

The Alliance provides a forum for sharing knowledge, skills and experience. It is an opportunity to come together and find strength through our shared aims to protect Country and culture from nuclear developments. The Alliance helped to build the successful campaign to stop the Jabiluka uranium mine in the Northern Territory, and proposed national nuclear waste dumps in South Australia and Muckaty in the NT. Currently, Aboriginal communities face a wave of uranium exploration, rehabilitation and remediation of former mine sites, several proposed new uranium mines, and the threat of AUKUS nuclear waste dumping.

Please support representatives from nuclear-affected First Nations communities to travel to the annual ANFA gathering.

Announcing our annual art auction fundraiser!

⏳Theme is "85 Seconds to Midnight" (inspired by this year's update to the Doomsday Clock)
📆 Thursday 25 June 2026
⏰ Doors 5:30pm / Live auction from 7:00pm
📍 29 Tinning Street Brunswick, Studio Arthouse Gallery Australia

The nuclear industry is forever seeking to expand its toxic influence and destructive operations. For over 50 years, Friends of the Earth's Nuclear Free Collective has been organising to support Aboriginal nations and communities on the frontlines of nuclear expansion. Together we work to protect people and the environment from radioactive threats that start with uranium mining and end with nuclear waste and nuclear weapons that have devastating impacts for hundreds of thousands of years and threaten all our futures.

This year the doomsday clock ticked to 85 seconds to midnight. This is symbolic of how perilously close we are to a nuclear apocalypse, due to threats from nuclear weapons, climate change and misuse of disruptive technologies. Urgent action is required to address these threats and de-escalate global tensions. Meanwhile 'Australia' has committed hundreds of billions of dollars in military expansion under the AUKUS military pact with nuclear superpowers US and UK.

Our (almost) annual art auction remains a vital fundraising event to sustain our work. It's also a wonderful occasion to bring our community together to support more creativity and less radioactivity!

We hope to see you there on June 25!

In 1986, on April 26, a power plant near the town of Chornobyl (or Chernobyl in the Russified spelling) became the site of the worst nuclear accident in history.

In remembrance of the Chornobyl catastrophe, the Nuclear Free Collective invites you to a vigil at 5:30pm on Monday 27 April, on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral. Bring a candle as we extend our solidarity and sympathy to many thousands of victims; past, present and future🕯️

We must never forget Chornobyl. The catastrophe is ongoing, especially in the current context of war. Most of Ukraine’s five nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities have come under direct shelling in recent years. This includes Chornobyl - the dome designed to contain the site's radiation was damaged in a drone strike last year.

Nuclear facilities readily become military targets.
Nuclear: never safe.

We also announced that we’re planning an Anti-AUKUS Peace Walk with Uncle Winiata in South Australia, most likely throughout September 2026. More details to come, and you can listen back to our workshop on the thanks to 📻☢️

Thanks again to everyone who showed up for the National Anti-AUKUS Day of Action on International Day of Peace!

Here in Narrm, put on an informative forum at Trades Hall with an incredible speakers including from , , , and (first photo)

Port Adelaide Community Opposing AUKUS (PACOA) held a local rally with excellent speakers talking about the importance halting the AUKUS impact on taxpayers, the horrifying momentum of USA Department of War and its tentacles wrapping Australia into the aggression maelstrom, impacts on Osborne and the Peninsula environment, and alternatives for spending on services that actually benefit the community (second photo)

Over in Freemantle, held a powerful rally to honour the global call for peace, justice & disarmament, calling for sanctions on Israel, Cut Military Ties with the US and, of course, CANCEL AUKUS!

gathered with the community both inside and outside the Fremantle Town Hall on 19/09. The Australian Submarine Agency's (ASA) Defence Information Session faced a 'barrage' of questions at their giant spruik of AUKUS masked as a 'community meeting'. Locals know that nuke subs aren't Cockburn Sound and our communities and repeatedly push back against China fear mongering (third photo)

This detailed new report should ring alarm bells across so-called Australia.

“Operational risks include radiological pollution of marine and coastal environments and wildlife; risks of radioactivity doses to coastal populations; and the serious risk of dangerous collisions between civilian vessels and nuclear submarines, especially in the approaches to busy naval and civilian sea ways and fishing grounds.
Ominously, the problems seem to be worsening.”

We need a thorough, independent review of AUKUS, and this report should be part of that inquiry.
