The South West Kart Club is based at the old Cobden Racecourse and was formed in August 1992 by local members who previously had raced at Geelong and Ballarat. At this first meeting a decision was made to build a first class bitumen track specifically for go kart racing, a plan was drawn up with the track being 966 meters in length and 8 meters in width. After a lot of hard work from members and the local community which has got right behind the project from the start, the track was finally ready for racing on in March 1996 and has since had rave reviews about its plentiful passing positions, great layout, long straights and the ability to cater for large fields. Sprint Kart racing is conducted on the last Sunday of every month bar December with racing starting at 11am and concluding around 3pm, these days are called club days where members of the club can race each other in a relaxed friendly environment for trophies which are presented at the conclusion of the days racing. The club currently holds three 'open' meetings where go karters from other clubs can race at our track and compete for prizes ranging from sets of racing tyres to a racing engine or other go karting products, these days a lot more serious with some of the best drivers in Victoria and South Australia racing at the track. Up to 200 karters have raced at each race meeting and this helps the district in attracting visitors and helps the club meets its financial commitments. Go Karting is for people of all ages and is very much a friendly family environment, children can start racing at the age of 7 years and there is no age limit for the senior classes. Go Karting has a strict set of rules and regulations to enable fairness for all competitors and this helps promote the ability of the driver and keeps cost to a minimum. Second hand go karts start in price around the $1500 mark ready to race with the costs of maintaining them approximately $50 upward per month. This makes go karting a very cheap form of motor sport when you compare it to motorbikes or other forms of racing, with the main attraction being the ability to have fun with your friend on the track which is open to members 5 days of the week.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Tania Walsh a valued member of our karting family.

On behalf of everyone at South West Kart Club, we extend our deepest condolences to Tania's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

Our sincere thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family – Freddy, Carly, Blake, Kinsley, her mother Sue, her sister Lisa and family, along with Tania's entire family and many friends during this difficult time.

Our thoughts are especially with her mother, Sue, and her sister, Lisa, who continue to be valued members of our club community. Please know that you are in the hearts of all our members, and we hope you find comfort in the love and support of those around you.

Tania will always be remembered for her involvement with our club, the friendships she made, and the memories she shared with so many throughout her time at South West Kart Club. Her memory will forever remain a part of our club family.

Rest in peace, Tania. You will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

Great to see so many new people interested in karting, they all enjoyed our come and try karting day, with lots of questions asked in the information session and they all had a drive of a go kart, they all had big smile on there faces as they all had fun after driving the 4SS Karts , and loved it,
Think we have a few people hooked on karting now and we will see some of these new faces at the our track

KARTING AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCES TYRE SUPPLIERS FOR 2027-2031

The Board of Karting Australia has confirmed the appointment of Maxxis and Vega as the tyre suppliers for Karting Australia sanctioned competition from January 1, 2027, through to December 31, 2031.

This outcome follows an extensive tender and evaluation process undertaken over the past 18 months by Karting Australia management and directors.

Group 1 (Cadet 9 and Cadet 12) – Maxxis KA-Cadet
Group 2 (KA3 Junior, KA3 Senior, TaG 125 Restricted) – Maxxis RED MAO
