Super Rod Racing

Super Rod Racing As the cars became lighter and faster a more exciting name was needed and the name of SUPER RODS was then adopted.

Super Rod racing is a division of speedway racing that is unique with a Sprintcar Chassis frame, V8 motor, self starting gear box topped with a fiberglass sedan looking body and race in a clockwise direction. Super Rod racing is a division of speedway racing that evolved from the Heavy Weight Hot Rod Class that pioneered speedway in the south west of Victoria in the 1960's. Today the class regular

ly runs at a host of tracks such as Sungold Stadium (Warrnambool), Avalon (Geelong), Simpson Speedway, Southern 500 speedway (Portland) as well as Mt Gambier, Hamilton, Horsham, Laang and Swan Hill. The frames of the cars are based on the design of a modern sprintcar but are made out of mild steel not chrome moly. Suspension components are the same as used on a Sprintcar. One thing that is different to sprintcars is that the are self starting and are able to move in both a forward and reverse direction. To do this Super Rods utilize a gear box, most commonly a Bert brand transmission. The motors used have a maximum capacity of 360 cubic inches and are limited to cast Iron Cylinder blocks and heads. To also help reduce cost flat top pistons, flat tappat cams etc are also used. The majority of the current engines are Chev's however there are some fords, holdens and a mopar. What really sets the Super Rods apart for all the other classes involved in speedway are the small sedan body shells that are fitted to them. These bodies are made from fibreglass and are easily removed to allow work on the engines. Most of the bodies come off a range of cars like Niki Lada, Honda Z, Ford prefect, Honda Scamp, Daihatsu Charade , mini minors and Holden Barinas. 🏁 Tour Series Coming to an End for 2025/26 🏁

The G&C Forestry / Lupton Builders Super Rod Tour is down to its final chapter for the 2025/26 season, and what a finish we have in store.

Unfortunately, Round 8 at Blue Ribbon Raceway, Horsham was cancelled as an official Tour round after the meeting was postponed due to bad weather on the original scheduled date. While the great people at Blue Ribbon Raceway still invited the Super Rods back to contest a feature race on the rescheduled date, several contracted Tour drivers were unable to attend, resulting in the event not counting towards the Tour standings.

As a result, the championship points remain unchanged heading into the final round, setting up one of the closest finishes in Tour history.

With just 10 points separating first and second place, and only 20 points covering the top three, every position on the track will matter when the green flag drops at the final round.

The battle for the title is headed by Stan Marco Jnr, who holds a slender 10-point advantage over Jamie May. With the difference between first and second in a feature race also worth 10 points, the championship could literally come down to who finishes in front of whom on the night.

Adding even more intrigue is Allan Pitcher, who sits only 20 points behind the series leader. A strong night from the AV10 machine combined with a few points going his way could see him steal the championship right at the finish line.

There are no calculations, no predictions, and no guarantees. The only certainty is that after a season of hard racing across Victoria and South Australia, the title will be decided at the final round.

One round remains.

One championship remains.

And with the points this close, the 2025/26 G&C Forestry / Lupton Builders Super Rod Tour is set for a thrilling finish.

Who will be crowned Tour Champion? We'll find out at Swan Hill. 🏁πŸ”₯

Court Wins Big at Horsham

The Super Rod Association headed to Horsham on Saturday night for another exciting round of racing, with 10 competitors putting on a fantastic show for the crowd.
What was originally scheduled as Round 8 of the G&C Forestry / Lupton Builders Super Rod Tour instead became a standalone Feature Race event.

Heat 1
Adrian (AV12) and Jamie Ackland (HA11) shared the front row for the opening heat. Adrian got the jump and led through turns one and two before Allan Pitcher (AV10) made his move and took over the lead shortly after. While there was plenty of action throughout the field, Allan remained in control to take the chequered flag. Dane Court (HA96) finished a close second, with Adrian rounding out the podium in third.

Heat 2
The second heat was action-packed from the drop of the green flag. Sally Woolstencroft (S66) led into turn one before Dane Court drove underneath her through turn two to take the lead. Court then found himself in an intense battle with Michael Coad (W25) for the opening laps before Coad made a mistake, allowing Court to break away. Once Dane found his rhythm, he was untouchable, racing away to claim a heat win. Allan Pitcher crossed the line in second, while Sally Woolstencroft finished third.

Heat 3
Heat three saw Allan Pitcher unable to take the start, watching the race unfold from the infield. Michael Coad took the early lead and held it for the opening three laps with Dane Court right on his tail. The pair put on a great battle before a mechanical failure ended Coad's night prematurely. Court went on to claim his second heat win of the evening, with Adrian finishing second and Tom Duynhoven taking third.

Feature Final
After two heat race victories, Dane Court secured pole position for the Feature Final. Allan Pitcher was scheduled to start alongside him but ongoing mechanical issues prevented him from taking his place, promoting Tom Duynhoven (S59) to the front row.

The final proved to be a dominant performance from Court. Once he hit the front, he simply drove away from the field, eventually lapping every competitor except the second and third-placed cars. Given a few more laps, he may well have lapped the entire field.

Dane Court capped off a near-perfect night by taking the Feature Race victory, with Tom Duynhoven finishing second and Adrian completing the podium in third.

Who will we be adding to the list as the winner of the 2026 Col Grist Memorial race at Mid Western Speedway, Darlington.

With tonight's race set to be a cold night we can hope the racing will be hotter.
with 11 cars nominated sadly Tommy Marco is now unable to attend to take on the 2026 Col Grist Memorial race. Also Luke Gilbert will attend pending work commitments so a its set to be a big night with a small car count.

We wish all drivers all the best and remember to pack extra warm clothes for the night.

A last-minute invite from Nyora Raceway saw the Super Rods join forces with the SDAV Hot Rods once again for the season, turning Anzac weekend into a road trip for a handful of drivers keen to have some fun on track.

With 16 cars in attendance across the two classes, the night promised plenty of action. The track draws saw the Super Rods start from the rear in the opening round of heats before reversing the order for the second round.

Heat 1 proved to be a learning curve for the Super Rod drivers, with the class not racing at Nyora for more than 30 years. Taking the win was the SDAV 1 car of Shannon Meakins, with Bailey Pitcher aboard the AV10 finishing second. Jason Grayland crossed the line in third after dusting off the helmet and proving he still had what it takes.

Heat 2 saw Michael Coad in the W25 machine grab the lead on lap 5 of the 10-lap affair and drive away for the victory. Peter β€œHerbie” Duynhoven brought the famous Herbie car home second, with the SDAV 2 machine completing the podium.

Heat 3 started with Tom Duynhoven and Paul Singleton on the front row, and it was Tom who would lead from start to finish. Michael Coad kept the pressure on throughout the race, bringing the Duynhoven/Coad team cars home first and second, while Jason Grayland added another podium finish in third.

Heat 4 featured Herbie Duynhoven and Bailey Pitcher sharing the front row, although it was short-lived after the 53 car spun in turn two and was collected by several cars, forcing him infield for the remainder of the race. On the restart only five cars remained, giving Bailey Pitcher a clear track to lead every lap to the chequered flag. Shannon Meakins finished second with Brendan Roberts in the SDAV 7 car third.

After a long break in the cool conditions between heats and the feature race, drivers regrouped for the 25-lap final, which was scheduled as the second-last event of the night.

Michael Coad led lap one with Bailey Pitcher and Shannon Meakins right behind him. Lap 7 brought out the yellow lights after Brendan Roberts spun, bunching the field back together. The restart only lasted a lap before Bailey Pitcher came to a dramatic halt when the driveline failed in the AV10, ending his night early.

Another restart followed, but again the race barely got underway before Brendan Roberts hit the wall and rolled heavily on the front straight. Thankfully, all drivers were okay.

As the laps wound down, Coad looked untouchable out front while Meakins held second. Behind them, Tom Duynhoven and Jason Grayland battled hard over third place honours. The race would eventually be declared after Peter β€œHerbie” Duynhoven rolled in a similar area to the Roberts incident, bringing the event to an early conclusion.

Michael Coad took the feature race honours ahead of Shannon Meakins, while Jason Grayland rounded out the podium in third place.

A huge thank you goes to Nyora Raceway for the late invite and also to the SDAV Hot Rod class for welcoming the Super Rods into the night’s racing.

Attention now turns to the Col Grist Memorial this weekend at Mid Western Speedway. Racing kicks off from 4pm, with hopes for a smooth-running program to beat the cold weather. Make sure to rug up, bring the warm clothes and come along to enjoy a great night of racing action.
