Ccurrently there are 32 vessels operated by Sydney Ferries (Transdev) the oldest date back to the Eighties. Currently there is a push to replace the Manly Ferries with Catamarans that cannot handle the swell it has been reported.

"The Maritime Union of Australia on Monday said the proposal to replace the four Freshwater ferries with Emerald-class catamarans would slash passenger capacity from 1100 to 400 per trip."
