💚💛 ROUND 7 WRAP – MND ROUND 💛💚

Round 7 is done and what a weekend it was for the Cougars.

After a massive trivia night on Saturday, there were a few parents around the grounds looking a little dusty this morning… but credit where it’s due, they still made it to the footy. That’s commitment. 😅

We also celebrated many a 50th game around the club this weekend. Special shout out goes to all the kids who got to run through their banner today!

This weekend was also MND Round, and after our incredible Big Freeze fundraiser on Friday night, it was fantastic to see the club continue to get behind such an important cause. The support, donations and community spirit across the weekend were something to be really proud of.

On the field, the weather turned it on and so did the Cougars. Great conditions, great energy and some fantastic results across the club. It’s clear our teams are starting to put their training into action, with stronger teamwork, better ball movement and plenty of confidence building each week.

We’ve now hit the halfway mark of the season, and this is where things start to get exciting. The foundations have been laid, the hard work is starting to show, and now it’s time for our teams to start their charge towards finals.

💚💛 BIG FREEZE 12 – WHAT A NIGHT 💛💚

What an incredible night at the Cougars as we came together for Big Freeze 12 and raised thousands of dollars for a truly important cause.

It was amazing to see so many people dressed up, getting involved, donating, cheering, laughing and, of course, watching our very brave volunteers get absolutely drenched with buckets of ice water. 🧊

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise the night, donated, volunteered, bought a beanie, supported the event or simply came down and got around it. Nights like this show exactly what community footy is all about.

A special shoutout to Darren from Future Stars in Focus for capturing some amazing photos of the night. The smiles, the costumes, the ice water reactions and the community spirit were all captured perfectly.

Cougar families, this Friday night we’re coming together for a great cause as we support FightMND and the Big Freeze.

💚💛 ROUND 6 WRAP 💛💚

Round 6 brought a proper winter footy feel — chilly air, plenty of wind, and a reminder that local footy season definitely isn’t played in perfect conditions.

But the Cougars came ready.

Across the club there were some fantastic results, with plenty of teams showing that the hard work at training is starting to click on game day. It’s always great to see players taking what they’ve practised during the week and putting it into action under pressure.

From strong tackling and cleaner ball movement, to better teamwork and smarter decision-making, there were great signs across all age groups. The conditions weren’t easy, but our players dug in, competed hard and kept finding ways to get the job done.

A massive thank you to our coaches, team managers, volunteers, families and supporters who braved the cold and wind to keep the day running. These are the weekends that show what community footy is all about.

Vale Neale Daniher 💚💛

Today the football community lost one of its greatest people.

Neale Daniher was more than a champion of the game. He was a leader, a fighter, a coach, a campaigner, and an inspiration to so many Australians.

Through his battle with Motor Neurone Disease, Neale showed extraordinary courage, humour and strength. His work with FightMND and the Big Freeze has helped raise more than $100 million for MND research and changed the way Australia understands and supports those living with this cruel disease.

His legacy will live on through every beanie worn, every dollar donated, and every person who continues the fight against MND.

💚💛 ROUND 5 WRAP – RECONCILIATION ROUND 💛💚

Round 5 is done and what a great weekend around the club.

For once, Melbourne decided to behave itself — no sideways rain, no wild wind, just a good day for footy and plenty of smiles around the grounds.

This week was Reconciliation Round, an important opportunity for our club to recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culture, history and their incredible contribution to our game and community.

Each team selected a Reconciliation Round medal winner — not for best on ground, but for the player who best represented what this round is all about: being a great teammate, showing respect, including others and playing the game in the right spirit. A huge congratulations to all medal winners across the club.

A special shoutout to Cooper from the Under 13s, for hitting his 50 game milestone and leading his team to a great win.

Across the club there were lots of great results, plenty of hard-fought contests and even more smiles. It’s been fantastic to see the hard work at training continuing to show up on game day, with our teams growing in confidence every week.

💚💛 ROUND 4 WRAP – SIR DOUG NICHOLLS ROUND 💛💚

What a fantastic weekend of footy for Round 4.

The day started with a bit of classic Melbourne rain, but thankfully the clouds cleared, the sun came out, and the grounds were soon full of footy, families and plenty of smiles.

This round was about more than just the scoreboard. Sir Doug Nicholls Round is an important opportunity for our club to recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culture, history and contribution to our great game.

Footy is stronger because of the incredible impact Indigenous players, families and communities have had on the sport — from grassroots clubs like ours all the way through to the highest level. This weekend gave our players a chance to be part of that recognition, and to reflect on the values of respect, connection and community.

Across the club there were plenty of great efforts, hard-fought contests and team moments to be proud of. Whether teams came away with a win or not, it was another round where our Cougars showed heart, spirit and a willingness to keep improving.

A massive congratulations to Lucas and Declan, who celebrated their 50 game milestones this weekend. A fantastic achievement and a great reward for their commitment to the club. Well done, boys!
