โ€ŽSalon owners are SO good at putting everyone else first.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽStaff get paid.
โ€ŽBills get paid.
โ€ŽProducts get ordered.
โ€ŽThe salon gets upgraded.
โ€ŽEvery spare dollar gets reinvestedโ€ฆ
โ€Ž
โ€ŽAnd then the owner says:
โ€Ž
โ€Žโ€œIโ€™ll start paying myself properly when the business is bigger.โ€
โ€Žโ€œIโ€™ll do it when things settle down.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe earlier you start putting something aside, the more time your money has to potentially grow. It might not feel like a priority when youโ€™re busy building your salonโ€ฆ but your future self deserves to be part of the plan too. โค๏ธ

โ€Ž
โ€ŽLetโ€™s be honest โ€” trends change.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽWhat looked fresh, modern and so you five years ago might not feel quite right anymore.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽAnd thatโ€™s OKAY. ๐Ÿ™Œ
โ€Ž
โ€ŽYour salon grows.
โ€ŽYour ideal client changes.
โ€ŽYour services evolve.
โ€ŽYour team changes.
โ€ŽYour vision gets bigger.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽSo why should your branding stay exactly the same?
โ€Ž
โ€ŽA rebrand doesnโ€™t always mean throwing everything out and starting from scratch. Sometimes itโ€™s simply about stepping back and asking:
โ€Ž
โ€Žโœจ Does my branding still represent where my salon is today?
โ€Žโœจ Does it attract the clients I actually want?
โ€Žโœจ Does it reflect the experience we provide?
โ€Žโœจ Does it feel current and aligned with where we're heading?

โ€Ž
โ€ŽOne of the biggest lessons from this episode of โ€œ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐’๐ก*๐ญ ๐’๐š๐ง๐๐ฐ๐ข๐œ๐กโ€ with my very first apprentice in Australia, ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฒ, is the power of the ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐ž๐ž ๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽBecause it often takes more than ONE visit to turn a new client into a regular.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThink about itโ€ฆ
โ€Ž
โ€Žโœจ Appointment #1 โ€” Youโ€™re getting to know them and their hair.
โ€Žโœจ Appointment #2 โ€” Youโ€™ve learned how their hair responds.
โ€Žโœจ Appointment #3 โ€” You can refine, personalise and show them that you actually ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ what works for them.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽAnd this is where something as simple as ๐ญ๐š๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ ๐œ๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ can make a HUGE difference. ๐Ÿ“
โ€Ž
โ€ŽWhen a client comes back and you know what you did last time, what worked, what didnโ€™t, what they loved and what you want to changeโ€ฆ
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThey don't just feel like another appointment in the book.
โ€Ž
โ€Ž
โ€ŽFor salon owners and stylists, client retention isn't always about finding more people.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽSometimes, it's about getting better at looking after the people who already walked through your door.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽSo, ask yourself:
โ€Ž
โ€Ž๐Ÿ‘‰ Are you giving your new clients a reason to come back for appointment #2?
โ€Ž๐Ÿ‘‰ Are you creating a plan for their next visit?
โ€Ž๐Ÿ‘‰ Are your team actually taking notes and using them?
โ€Ž
โ€ŽBecause three appointments can be the beginning of a ๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ -๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฆ ๐œ๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ

โ€ŽIt's a new day, and sometimes the best thing you can do for your salon isn't working harderโ€”it's taking a moment to look at the bigger picture. ๐Ÿ’ญโœจ
โ€Ž
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThat's one of the biggest questions we unpack in this episode.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽHere's the reality: building a successful salon isn't just about being fully bookedโ€”it's about creating a business that can thrive even when you're not behind the chair every day.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽToo many salon owners spend years working ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ their business, only to discover they're not actually building something that's ready for the next chapter.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽWhether that's selling, stepping back, or simply having more freedom, it all starts with having the right systems, the right plan, and knowing where your gaps are.
โ€Ž
โ€Ž๐Ÿ’ก As we move through August, it's the perfect time to pause and ask yourself:
โ€Žโœจ Could your team confidently run without you?
โ€Žโœจ Are your systems documented?
โ€Žโœจ If you wanted to sell tomorrow, would your salon be ready?
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe answers might surprise youโ€”but they're worth knowing.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽIf you're dreaming of more freedom, planning your future, or simply wanting a stronger salon business, this episode is one you won't want to miss.
โ€Ž

Wellโ€ฆ my body finally hit the emergency brake ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’ฅ

After six months of absolute chaos ๐Ÿ˜…

โœ‚๏ธ Moving the salon
๐Ÿ“š Education audits
๐Ÿšฟ Plumbing disasters
๐Ÿ’ฌ Being slated on the internet
๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ผ Managing a team
โค๏ธ Looking after everyone else
๐Ÿฅ Recovering from a hysterectomy

โ€ฆmy body simply went, โ€œNope. Weโ€™re done.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

This week landed me in hospital.

Not because of one thing, but because of everything.

The funny thing is, social media only shows the wins ๐ŸŽ‰

โœจ The beautiful salon
โœจ The fresh new space
โœจ The transformations
โœจ The smiling photos
โœจ The milestones

What it doesnโ€™t show are the sleepless nights ๐ŸŒ™, the pressure ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ, the responsibility ๐Ÿ’ญ and the moments when youโ€™re trying to hold it all together because everyone is relying on you.

For months, Iโ€™ve been telling myself, โ€œJust get through this week.โ€ Then another week. Then another.

Eventually, your body starts keeping score.

Mine certainly did. ๐Ÿ’”

The good news? Iโ€™m okay. ๐Ÿ’š

And if thereโ€™s one thing Iโ€™ve learned from all of this, itโ€™s that rest isnโ€™t a reward you earn when everything is done. Itโ€™s something you need along the way.

So this is your reminder, as much as mine:

๐ŸŒฟ Rest.
๐ŸŒฟ Slow down.
๐ŸŒฟ Ask for help.
๐ŸŒฟ Listen to your body.

Because the business will survive.
The to-do list will still be there tomorrow.

You only get one you. ๐Ÿคโœจ

Now if youโ€™ll excuse me, Iโ€™ve got some serious recovering and resting to do ๐Ÿ˜˜๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ’š

โ€ŽHairdressers are some of the most multi-tasked humans out there ๐Ÿ’ญโœ‚๏ธ

โ€ŽWeโ€™re listening, creating, problem-solving, managing emotions, running behind time, answering messages, thinking about clients, stock, team culture, money, contentโ€ฆ all at once.

โ€ŽNo wonder so many in our industry feel like they have โ€œtoo many tabs openโ€ ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

โ€ŽIn this episode of the podcast, co-host Meg and I talk honestly about:
โ€Ž๐Ÿง  ADHD tendencies in hairdressers
โ€Ž๐Ÿ’ฌ anxiety, overwhelm & burnout in salon life
โ€Žโค๏ธ why asking for help shouldnโ€™t feel shameful
โ€Žโšก how burnout often starts before we even realise it
โ€Ž๐Ÿ™Œ and the importance of stepping back and reassessing before it gets too heavy
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThis conversation is such an important reminder for salon owners AND salon workers this month:
โ€ŽYou can love the industry and still need support.
โ€ŽYou can be passionate and still feel exhausted.
โ€ŽYou can be strong and still ask for help.

โ€ŽThere is absolutely no shame in taking care of your mental health ๐Ÿค

The hardest seasons of your life arenโ€™t there to destroy youโ€ฆ theyโ€™re there to build the version of you that couldnโ€™t exist otherwise.

Every setback, every rejection, every moment you thought youโ€™d never recover from โ€” it teaches you something. Strength doesnโ€™t come from comfort. Growth doesnโ€™t happen without pressure.

So if life feels heavy right nowโ€ฆ maybe youโ€™re not breaking.Maybe youโ€™re rebuilding. โœจ
