In the end, the season finished exactly how it had to.
On Thursday, CDRLFC did a community service to NRC, who had been losers for all their lives, by giving them a 4-3 victory.
The writing was on the wall when Zi Kit Tohni Kroos saw the referee, who had a long-standing grudge against our club. From then on, it was always going to be an uphill battle. A stunning embrace from Aleggxis Sanchez saw us take the lead 1-0. After a period of sustained pressure, a calamitous moment in our backline saw a deflection in to take the game to 1-1. It was shortly after that the referee showed his true colours. He denied us two clear penalties from a 1v1 with the goalkeeper. This was followed by a tackle on Diego Mazadona that belonged in WWE, not division 2 social futsal. It sent her flying, resulting in a severe wrist injury that left her hampered for the rest of the match. Now 3-2 down, we were still right in the game. Our outstanding GK Splits made a terrific save – and then the whistle blew. What was going on? Was the referee blowing so he could go and shake Splits' hand to congratulate him?
No.
In a disgusting case of bias, the ref declared NRC’s shot to be a goal, even when it didn’t cross the line. So shocking was the refereeing that another ref joined in to preside over proceedings. Understandably, Angliss Di Maria asked who was refereeing the match, and outrageously received a yellow card. At 4-2 down, a goal from Sanchez gave us a glimmer of hope, but alas, it was not enough and the game ended 4-3.
Well done to NRC for accepting our charity graciously.
Thanks to all our supporters for a great season!
