UWA Judo Club - Perth WA The UWA Judo Club was established in 1988 under the UWA Martial Arts Club.

In 2008 , UWA Judo became a separate club catering for students and the community interested in the Olympic Sport of Judo and other grappling and submission sports.

A busy period ahead for UWA judo athletes representing Australia, who'll be competing internationally in different parts of Europe and Asia.

First up is Maria Swan, who'll be competing in the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam this weekend (June 19-21), Qingdao Grand Prix (June 26-18) and the Sarajevo European open (July 18-19), then the Commonwealth Games (July 31 - Aug 2).

Keishin and Timeo both will be competing in the Sarajevo European Open (July 18-19). Keishin will then join up with Maria and the rest of the National team to compete in the Commonwealth Games.

Also heading to Europe is Oren, with the Junior National team. She'll be competing in the Prague Junior European Cup (July 4-5) and Paks Junior European Cup (July 11-12).

UWA developing juniors and cadets consisting of Zech, Kaian, Isaac, Chloe, Oren and Noa will be competing in the Hong Kong Asian Cadet and Junior Cup (July 18-19) and the Macau Asian Cadet and Junior Cup (July 25-26) the following weekend.

Our senior team athletes of Kohsei, Timeo and Alex will compete in the Taipei Asian Open (July 11-12)

UWA Judo Club is pleased to host and celebrate the 50th year of the Treaty of Friendship and Co-Operation between Australia and Japan, and the 45th Year of the Sister State Relationship between Hyogo Prefecture, by hosting a delegation of Hyogo Prefectural Student Judo Federation Senior members, between 23rd to 30th Sept 2026.

This Japanese Consulate sanctioned event , hopes to strengthen and broaden the 37 years of Judo exchanges between Hyogo Prefecture and Western Australia both at a University and State federation level, bring together, Hyogo Prefecture representatives and .

In addition, we plan to hold a formal “Legacy and Thank You” function to express our appreciation to those who have
supported the development of exchange between Hyogo Prefecture and
Western Australia over many years.

This gathering will also serve as an
opportunity to strengthen future networks among universities, sport organizations, local communities, and government-related stakeholders.

The Australian University Games will be held over the same period at UWA.

All the best to UWA judo athlete Maria Swan competing this weekend, representing the Australian National Team. This will be one of many international competitions in preparation for the Commonwealth Games. We wish the Australian Team all the best.

NEXT STOP: ULAANBAATAR. Five members of our National team - and newly-named Commonwealth Games squad - are on their way to Mongolia to compete in the 2026 Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam, taking place this weekend, June 19-21.

Watch Tinka Easton and Joshua Katz up first on Friday, with Aoife Coughlan competing Saturday, and Kayhan Ozcicek-Takagi and Maria Swan on the mat Sunday.

Family Judo has been running since 2019 at UWA Judo Club. Today we had 110 Judoka and their family members training together in a fun and safe environment .

UWA Judo Club club boasts 45% of our membership with two or more members in the same family, with 62 families training together at our club.

On the final day of competition at the National Championships, UWA Judo athletes representing the Judo WA State team took to the mat in the u13s, u15s and kyu grade divisions. Some were competing at a high level for the first time outside of WA and some were regular competors testing themselves. Our athletes gave it their best and never gave up, fighting hard till the end.

There were spectacular throws and wins, tough contests that were close and heart breaking losses. Our athletes did everyone proud, fought hard and with spirit to the end. It is with great honour and pleasure that we announce UWA judo athletes Maria Swan and Keishin Ochi are selected to represent Australia for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Words can't express how immensely proud we all are of your selection. Your hard work, performances, dedication and results have paid off. Your selection follows the footsteps of UWA Judo athlete Darcina Manuel who represented New Zealand and won bronze in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

We take this opportunity to thank all the coaches past and present and training partners and importantly family support for their contribution to their success and selection.

We wish you and the Australian National Team all the best

2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation between Japan and Australia and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Australia-Japan Foundation. To commemorate this, the Diplomatic Archives will co-host a special exhibition with the Australian Embassy in Japan from June 17 to August 1.
