One of our popular members, George, recently competed in the Oceania Powerlifting Championships held in Melbourne from 4-6 September.
The championship attracted 111 competitors from across the Pacific region, including athletes from the Pacific Islands, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, competing in a range of open and age-group categories.
There were some impressive performances throughout the event, with Al Temaki delivering a standout squat of 425kg, just 20kg shy of the world record.
On a personal level, George competed in the 120kg Open Weight Division as well as the 70-74 age group. His outstanding performance saw him achieve a 400kg total across the three lifts, earning:
๐ฅ 1st Place in his age group an Australian Record for the 70-74 age category
๐ฅ 3rd Place overall in the 120kg weight division
While pleased with the result, George believes there was even more left in the tank, with a little inexperience costing him an additional 15kg after missing a couple of start cues.
Most importantly, George proudly represented Australia and has now received an invitation to compete at the World Championships in Amritsar, India, this December.
Please join us in congratulating George on his incredible achievement and wishing him every success as he prepares to represent Australia on the world stage! ๐ช ๐
