A Course Transformation Years in the Making

There are moments when the results of long-term planning become impossible to ignore.

Following the wettest June at Blackwood Golf Club since 1970, and with July's annual average rainfall exceeded within just the first few days of the month, Blackwood Golf Club has faced one of the toughest winter tests in recent memory. Despite these extraordinary conditions, our golf course has continued to perform exceptionally well.

Apart from a small number of days where golf cart use was suspended to protect the course—as would be expected at any quality golf facility—play has continued throughout this period whenever conditions have allowed. The feedback from members has been overwhelming, with many commenting on just how remarkably dry and playable the course has remained.

This outcome is no accident.

It is the result of years of strategic investment, careful planning and the ongoing implementation of our Course Improvement Plan (CIP). Extensive drainage upgrades across key areas of the course, combined with countless other improvement projects, have fundamentally changed the way Blackwood Golf Club performs during winter.

While there are still several smaller drainage projects to complete, this winter has provided clear evidence that the improvements are delivering exactly what they were designed to achieve.

This milestone would not have been possible without the dedication of our Course Maintenance Team, the leadership of our Course Committee, the support of the Committee of Management, and the many volunteers who continue to contribute countless hours to improving our course. Their commitment over several years deserves enormous recognition.

For many years Blackwood carried the perception of being a course that struggled through winter. We are incredibly proud to say that perception no longer reflects the reality.

Our work certainly isn't finished, but the transformation is well underway, and the results are there for everyone to see.

Members can view the status of the Course Improvement Plan, including completed works and future projects, via the Club's website. It provides a fascinating insight into the long-term vision that continues to shape Blackwood Golf Club.

On Thursday 25th, 66 women gathered for dinner to celebrate Blackwood Women in Golf.

The evening began with a welcoming glass of sparkling, providing everyone with the opportunity to catch up and socialise before hearing from our guest speaker, Anne-Marie Knight. Anne-Marie shared her journey into golf, her experiences playing on the professional circuit, and her career in coaching. She also offered insightful reflections on what women's golf means to her, highlighting that it is about much more than the game itself—it is about the friendships, support, community, and opportunities that golf provides.

The Pennant and Hickory Managers then gave a brief summary of the season for each team and presented the Best Performer Trophy to the outstanding player from each team in recognition of their achievements.

Blackwood Nomads

The Nomads 2026 Challenge commenced today in windy but thankfully dry conditions. Royal Adelaide emerged victorious, defeating Blackwood 3:2. All players demonstrated a strong effort, competing with Royal Adelaide on their home turf. The camaraderie and hospitality provided by Royal Adelaide made for an excellent day for all. The reciprocal match will be held in October when Blackwood will have the opportunity to shine.

A New Era Begins at Blackwood Golf Club
Today marked a significant milestone in the history of Blackwood Golf Club, with the doors officially opening on our newly refurbished, club operated Pro Shop.
Despite the weather dampening proceedings, there was a real sense of excitement around the Club this morning as staff put the finishing touches on what is a fantastic new facility for members and visitors alike. With no competitions today due to heavy rain, only a handful of our hardiest golfers ventured out onto the course, but it provided the perfect opportunity to put the new operation through its paces.
Golf Operations Manager Chris Barker and Club Head Professional Troy Lane were all smiles as they welcomed members into the warm and inviting new space. From quality coffee and fresh baked goods to an expanded retail offering, the new Pro Shop is already transforming the Blackwood golf experience.
To celebrate the opening, we've launched straight into a Opening Sale, with 15% off all new season stock this week. Whether you're looking for apparel, equipment, accessories or simply keen to see the new facility for yourself, now is the perfect time to visit.
The driving range is also ready to go, with the ball machine freshly loaded with several thousand brand-new range balls and operating beautifully from our new Range Servant.
While the weather forecast remains challenging over the coming days, it gives our team further opportunity to test every aspect of the operation to ensure everything is running smoothly ahead of what we hope will be a busy winter period.
We couldn't be more excited about this next chapter for Blackwood Golf Club and look forward to welcoming you through the doors.

The Women's Foursomes Championships took place on Sunday, the 31st, with 21 teams enjoying the surprisingly good weather, which remained rain-free. The course played well, and the day was rounded off with a delicious afternoon tea and prize presentations.

The A’s pennant team had the Grand Final at Kooyonga yesterday versus West Lakes. Unfortunately, the team lost 4-3, with the match coming down to the last hole. The players fought gallantly all day in tough conditions, but it was just not meant to be. It was a great atmosphere nonetheless, with plenty of support — thank you.

We would like to thank all those involved across all pennant divisions — not just today, but throughout the year. It was a great effort to get 2 teams into finals in men’s and juniors including a grand final. Some good signs for 2027.
