240kg Squat 2kg below my best.

Thought I could move this better but Ill take it being close to my best. Grateful of every opportunity to improve. Gotta take em with both hands.

At a recent weightlifting course I attended, I came across the phrase ‘its a marathon not a sprint’, which made me think and realise that this can be applied to many other sports and even other aspects of life.

Too often we hear people trying to maximise their results in a short period of time with a crazy workout or 6 week program, only to get injured or burned out. Resulting in going backwards and be out of the training for a while or giving it up all altogether

Don’t minimise your long term potential by overshooting in the short term.
Like many things in life you will go further by being in the game for the long run.
Priorities may change in life but I still plan to train for a very long time. Happy lifting ✌️

Unlocked 3 Comp plates ✅ 170kg (+5kg)

Its been over a year since Ive competed or tested maxes so glad to be able let off some steam and get a pb.
Next to do it on the platform this year and hopefully we can pb other lifts too .berkmanpt cheers for the patient coaching.

Pbs all round with a 130kg Deadlift(+10), 100kg bench press (+20)and 100kg squat(+20)

Some mistakes that people do starting up or getting back into training.

Even without the lockdowns with covid19 happening, I often find people seem lost in the gym.
These may be pretty basic things but its good to reiterate basic things at times.

Yes sometimes you will need to push on but there will be times that it is better change and adapt a more suitable plan for your current situation. This is where having a good coach can help you determine your next step of action to continue moving towards your goals.

A Few Tips to Help Improve Your Squats

Firstly a Good Setup:
Solid bar position with a good shelf.
Then unracking with both feet below the bar, bracing then popping up.
Followed by an efficient 2/3 step walkout which should be routine.

Initiate:
Big breath and brace into your belt.
Keeping your back tight and bar over midfoot.
Feet grabbing the ground keeping your arch and tripod foot position helping you balance.
Knees and hips to initiate the descent of your squat.

Ascent:
Keep tension throughout.
Knees & hips lockout same time.
Most importantly Stand back up!

Depending on your goals and level with squats you may need less/more technical feedback but there should be some sort of squat variation in your program.

Deload Week

Deloads are an important part of a program where you should let your body recover so you can be ready to push into the next block of training. Usually this will happen every 4-6 weeks but can vary in some circumstances. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.
