It has been some time since we have provided an update regarding the TJC. Although the social media page may have appeared quiet, significant work has been occurring behind the scenes.
The TJC, Hammer & Co., and Racing Queensland have been collaborating to determine the most effective solution to address the issues with the track surface. Following many hours of consultation and research, it was agreed that trial patches would be installed on the track to enable thorough testing. Five trial patches have been established, including synthetic fibres, natural fibres, and a new sand.
The purpose of this initiative is to evaluate how each material performs under local climatic conditions, to develop the appropriate maintenance procedures for each, and to conduct testing that will determine which material best meets the requirements for horse training and racing.
Over the coming months, we will work closely with Racing Queensland, QRIC, industry representatives, and our contractor. This process will involve testing, conducting gallops, jump-outs, and multiple mornings of trackwork to ensure that we select the most suitable surface for a safe and sustainable return to racing.
We recognise that the community is eager to see racing resume, and we assure you that our enthusiasm matches, if not exceeds, your own. However, it is essential that we complete this stage with the utmost care to ensure not only the resumption of racing, but to set the track up for the clubβs future growth for many generations to come.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Racing Queensland for their continued support, and to Hammer & Co. for their unwavering commitment to this project.
Please stay tuned for further updates in the near future.
