π A heartbreaking 24 hours for Charlton Pony Club π
It has been a very worrisome 24 hours for our Charlton Pony Club community, with the threat of yet another flood looming over our beautiful grounds. π§οΈπ
Although our location is incredibly beautiful, being so close to the river always brings a sense of fear and uncertainty whenever a flood warning is issued. Our members have been on constant alert over the past 24 hours, anxiously watching the river and worrying about what another flood could mean for our much-loved cross country course. π΄π
Sadly, late last night those fears were realised when the Avoca River peaked at 6.4 metres, reaching moderate flood level. Approximately 50% of our cross country course β including jumps and tracks β has once again been inundated. π
A look at the course early this morning, once some of the water had receded, showed that several jumps had been washed away. Thankfully, it appears that these jumps have been caught further downstream and, with a bit of luck, should be recoverable. ππΌ
There are still several jumps underwater, so as soon as the water recedes enough, we will assess the damage and see what can be salvaged.
As you can imagine, our small but incredibly passionate Charlton Pony Club community is absolutely devastated. ππ΄ We have worked so hard to build and maintain our cross country course, and as a very small club, we rely heavily on the dedication, generosity and hard work of our members and volunteers to keep everything running.
But we will pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and rebuild β together. πͺπΌβ€οΈ
We will be holding a CLEAN-UP WEEKEND on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August, and we would be incredibly grateful to anyone who is able to pop down and lend a hand as we begin the huge task of recovering and reassembling our cross country course.
Whether you can spare an hour, a whole day, bring a pair of willing hands, a trailer, some tools, or simply come and help β every little bit will make a difference. π οΈπ΄
Our course means so much to our club and our community. It has been built through years of hard work, love and countless volunteer hours, and we are determined to bring it back to life once again. πΏβ€οΈ
Thank you to everyone who has supported Charlton Pony Club through the floods, the clean-ups and the rebuilds. Your kindness, time and generosity mean more than you know.
Hereβs hoping the river gives us a break soon. πππΌ
Charlton Pony Club β small club, big heart. ππ΄
