And that’s another one down, the 2025 edition of the Charlton and District Community Bank Australia Day weekend Tournament was as enjoyable as any in memory. With the Brian Heenan prepared courts playing as good as, if not better than ever, there was no shortage of awesome tennis on display. If you didn’t enjoy your tennis this weekend, you weren’t trying. Huge thanks to the nearly 200 players who made Charlton their home over the weekend, how lucky we are to have such a great group of players, all abilities, all ages, all having a blast, hopefully we see the majority of you again in 2026 - don’t forget to tell your friends what an amazing time you had in Charlton and what fabulous people you got to play against!! Please feel free to add your photos from the weekend.
Sunday night’s finals under lights went to a new level, not only did we have oodles of food options, fireworks, live music courtesy of Greg and Alicia Towers, and our Mixed Doubles final, but we added the the big screen for the AusOpen Men’s Singles Final - there literally was something for everyone.
Big shout out to everyone who did their bit to make sure the weekend went as smoothly as possible, from our committee to community members and the guys from the Wycheproof TC who jumped in and helped out as well, Charlton Lions Club, Wycheproof Racing Club for the use of their umbrellas and table, Kim and Andrea and crew making fresh rolls and sandwiches each day, Gloria organising our kitchen, Anthony and Trevor providing the man power, Wendy and Carmel with Wayne stocking and selling from the bar, Michelle getting the trophies and more sorted, Matt and Jess making sure the cash flowed in and out, and Rae making sure all of the entries were received and everyone got a game where they should, and finally Roger, Brian, Bec, Kim, Sharon, Mary-Anne and Zali in the box keeping the courts full - all came together beautifully. Massive thanks to all of you.
And while we can’t wait for 2026, might put our collective feet up for a couple of weeks first…

2025 Tournament is just around the corner, line up your partners or come on your own, but get ready to have some fun and a great weekend on and off the court in little Charlton town. Can't wait to see you here!!

Tomorrow marks the start of October, that can only mean 1 thing - TENNIS is just around the corner....
Saturday tennis in the North Central Lawn Tennis Association competition looks like kicking off on Saturday the 12th of October - which is now under 2 weeks away 😲 And while the front row of courts will be good to go, we have had the middle row fully levelled, Brendan from Reeves Earthmoving has done a magnificent job of ensuring the eveness of the surface, there has unfortunately come in a lot of pebbles and stones, which we are going to have to remove piece by piece.... If you are looking to spend some time in the sun over the next few weeks, please consider walking the middle row of courts and picking out any stones, big or small, that you can see.
In the meantime, please dust of your racquets, and get ready for a big season ahead - we are still looking for more players for Saturday's, if you know of anyone even remotely keen, please bring them along for a hit each and every Tuesday night, starting on Tuesday the 8th at 7pm. Give Troy a call on 0431 813 344 with any questions.

Charlton Lawn Tennis Club members, past players and tournament visitors alike will be incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of our youngest ever Club Champion – Maddison ‘Maddi’ Fitzpatrick. Heartbreakingly taken far too soon, Maddi certainly achieved so much in such a short time, including being a three-time Club Champion at just 16 years of age, completing a hat-trick of wins between 2019 and 2021, before showcasing her all-round sporting talent and concentrating on her cricket. Maddi’s determination, bravery and willingness to pitch in and do whatever needed to be done should serve as inspiration for us all.
Our collective heartfelt sympathies are extended to Kim, Shane, Cobi and Elliott, as well as the wider Fitzpatrick and Elliott families at this very sad time. Our thoughts, prayers and hugs are with you all. We hope the grass courts up there are as good as those in Charlton!! Rest in peace Madz.
