Congratulations to our Making Waves athletes for breaking ground at All Schools 1 on Sunday! This marked the first occasion that Making Waves have competed in a Rowing WA event!
It was a great day for rowing, with the sun shining and beautiful flat water! The kids put out a competitive effort, coming away with great results!
Of the four athletes entered this weekend, all were brave enough to take on the single. Ollie in Year 9 came 2nd, Coby in Year 10 came 5th, Temperance in Year 9 came 3rd, and Aylaa also in Year 9 came 4th. Our athletes have spent a lot of time in the singles since day one of learning to row, and we are so proud of them for executing their first race!
Our athletes were able to join forces in doubles, with the boys double coming 4th in their division, and the girls coming 3rd.
To round off the day, Temperance and Aylaa rowed in a quad with 2 girls from ANA, and came away with a gold medal!
Being involved in the sport of rowing teaches more that just rowing skills, and our kids embraced the challenges and emotions that come with racing in such a mature manner. Theyโve ripped off the band-aid with this first regatta, and we look forward to seeing them progress in their future competitions!
Huge thank you to Coach Alec and Luke for supporting the kids on the day, and parents/guardians for coming on this journey with them!
