Great Game for KCC 5th Grade on Sat 9 Jan 2021
Match Report from Kapitan Krush
Hi Team,
What a cracking Saturday gone by!!! We lost the toss and fielded against North Shore (unbeaten all season till this point) with the team eager to kick off cricketing proceedings in 2021.
Yucca was unlucky to not have a wicket 2nd ball (u owe junior, Etti!!) but Bharat obliged at the other end to castle 1 of the openers and kick start the year for us. New boy Zac joined in the fun with some left arm banana swing to clean up the other dangerous looking leftie opener and Leon repeated the same dose to their #3 in his first over..
In walked Stephen Burnsy who was in a belligerent mood and trying to hit every bowler out of the attack. What happened next? To answer the question, we need to ask another one. What does Travis Head do when he's dropped from the Aussie cricket team?
HE rocks up for KCC !
Travis 'Deano' Head got taken for 9 runs in his first over but only smirked putting his hat back on plotting his adventures for later in the day.
North Shore bought their best T20 game out attacking at every opportunity and raced to 3/81 at drinks with a couple of hard hitters to follow. Deano switched ends and varied his pace beautifully to finish off a tidy over. Just as Zac was supposed to start his 2nd spell at the other end, he injured himself and I had to take the ball and ply my trade. This over yielded just 1 run and North Shore suddenly panicked as if they'd swallowed a Mexican chilli and needed a water fountain!
Burnsy tried hitting Deano to the moon but was brought down to the earth with a great catch by Frank at mid off with the sun in his eye. Frank helped me out next over catching the other batter at mid-wicket and then the Deano daredevilry was well and truly at its zenith.
Deano got into his groove flummoxing batsmen in flight, guile and pace variations bowling a maiden in between as he scythed through the North Shore lineup with classic dismissals Dan Vettori and Derek Underwood would have been proud of; batters caught at mid off/on, deep mid wicket, 1 guy missing a straight one to his pad and a stumping off the last ball of his spell (Well done Hari!) to finish off a remarkable 7-1-20-5, you beauty!!!
Bharat came back to help his skip with the slow over rate by getting the last of the tailenders to scoop to mid wicket and from 3/81 at drinks, North Shore were bamboozled by a Travis Head doppelganger to be skittled out for 105, a collapse of 7/26!!
Special mention to Frankie 'Spiderman' Chahwan and Leon (2 catches each) and the whole team overall for our tenacity in the field.
Leon and I then had a ball riding on our fielding heroics to complete the final rites. Leon looked very compact in a well made 34 (4x4, 1x6) and yours truly chipped in with 67* (6x4, 5x6) in an opening stand of 99 to hand North Shore their first defeat of the season.
Imposing win by any standards esp against the table toppers!
