I started pilates many years ago at the suggestion of a friend. I had chronic back, hip and leg pain and had lost most of my flexibility and strength. After a few months of pilates my core strength had improved dramatically resulting in a huge reduction in pain. I was impressed enough to train to be a teacher. After that initial burst of improvement progress slowed down but continued. However, bei
ng a very active person teaching dance and pilates and undertaking my own training I kept re-injuring myself. Over time I discovered Trigger Point Therapy and then Yamuna Ball Rolling. This combination of 3 modalities has created a consistent improvement in pain reduction (to the point where it's seldom felt), strength and flexibility. Part of the improvement has been understanding that it takes time and pushing oneself isn't always the answer … something difficult to come to terms with in our instant fix society. The other factor has been the releasing of long term trigger points (think of a type of scar tissue) which enables blood flow and reduction of inflammation. Trigger points can develop for many reasons, some of the causes … injury, dehydration, repetitive movement, habitual movement patterns. So long as one has active, or even inactive, trigger points the body cannot truly benefit from any form of exercise. Finally, Yamuna Ball Rolling is a wonderful way to self massage creating length, ease and release of muscles. At BodyEasePilates we take time to allow the body to relax/heal, align and strengthen. You'll leave class feeling taller, more relaxed yet energised.
