💙🤍 200 GAMES FOR HANNAH RUSSELL 🤍💙

Recently we celebrated an incredible milestone for one of our most dedicated Catani netballers, Hannah Russell, who has reached an amazing 200 games for the club!

Hannah first joined Catani in 2013 and made an immediate impact, finishing runner-up Best & Fairest in A Grade in her very first season.

Since then, Hannah has given so much to our club, both on and off the court. She has coached our Under 17s and Under 15s, shared her incredible knowledge of the game with so many players, made lifelong friendships and was a proud member of our 2019 B Grade Premiership team.

What makes Hannah’s 200 games even more special is the dedication she has shown to Catani over the years. Living in the city, Hannah has made the trip down for 95% of the time, travelling the distance week after week to pull on the Catani dress and be there for her teammates and her club.

Hannah, your commitment, knowledge, passion and willingness to give back has made you such an important part of Catani Netball. You do so much for our club, and most importantly, we absolutely love having you here.

200 games is an incredible achievement and one that you should be so proud of.

Congrats to our junior netballers and footballers at the EDFNL vote count and presentation.
Miley Warde & Ruby Francis tied as Equal Best & Fairest in the 17s. Amazing recognition for their outstanding years along with winning the league goal throwing award.

Hunter Smith finished 5th on 19 votes in the 18s, Brodie Drury was also 5th in the 16s on 23 votes and Evie Tymensen 7th on 23 votes in our 13s netball.

We should be extremely proud of all our junior players who represent our club every Saturday along with a big thanks to all the parents, grandparents, family and supporters who come each week.
Just one more Saturday to go for our 17s… 💙💙💙

What a weekend for the Catani Army! 🔥

🏆 17 & UNDER | GRAND FINAL BOUND!

Our 17 & Under girls have punched their ticket straight into the Grand Final after a win over Yarragon! 💙

What an incredible achievement. One more game. One big dance. 🏆

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for our Under 18s, C Grade and B Grade, with all three teams bowing out of the finals.

We couldn’t be prouder of what each team has achieved, the effort they’ve put in and the way they’ve represented the navy blue and white all season. 💙

Now, one team remains…

VALE JOHN “GILL” GILLAN

The Catani Football & Netball Club is deeply saddened by the passing of our 2026 Number One Ticket Holder, John “Gill” Gillan, who passed away peacefully today, Saturday 29 August, following a long battle with illness.

His connection to our club and community stretched across generations. His parents, Alec and Peggy, long-time members and wonderful supporters of the club, while his brother Graeme also pulled on the Catani jumper.

Gill started his football at Catani at just 14 years of age in the Thirds, eventually progressing through to the Seniors, where he became a dependable back pocket - a good, honest footballer who always gave his best for Catani.
He served as a trainer and committee member and, when the club needed someone to step up, became President in 1997. His contribution to Catani was later recognised with Life Membership of the club.

Gill and June have been incredibly generous supporters, donors and sponsors of the club for many years, with Gill particularly renowned for the much-loved junior pie nights.
Away from football, Gill was equally passionate about the Catani community. He played cricket and tennis and, through farming, became well known throughout Gippsland, helping innovate and advance the dairy industry alongside his family.

We’ll miss seeing Gill at the bar, invariably shouting someone “another one”. We’ll miss his stories, his generosity, his loyalty and his unwavering love for Catani.

Our deepest condolences, love and thoughts are with June and the entire Gillan family at this incredibly sad time.
Gill, you will be very deeply missed, like Belle is missing you already!

The finals campaign continues, and four Catani teams are still fighting it out! 🔥

After a huge first week of finals, our 17 & Under, Under 18s, C Grade and B Grade teams are back on the court and field this weekend with everything on the line.

250 GAMES FOR TANNY 💙🤍

Recently, we celebrated a pretty special milestone for one of our favourite Catani people, Tanny Rodda, who has notched up an incredible 250 games for the Catani Football Club! 👏🏼

Tanny started his footy journey right here at Catani as a junior, before spending a few seasons at Stoney Creek. While there, he famously picked up a Best on Ground in a Premiership, which we’re all lucky enough to relive on the big screen!

He returned home to Catani in 2011 to play senior footy and it didn’t take long for him to make his mark, finishing Runner-Up in the Best & Fairest to Luke McFarlane that year.

Known for his leadership, his toughness and his willingness to put his head over the footy, Tanny was soon given the captaincy. That leadership helped guide Catani to the 2017 Premiership, where he became a true Champ Champ, having also co-coached our Under 18s to their Premiership earlier that very same day. 🏆

These days, Tanny spends a little more time running around with the Reserves, where he has won the Ray Fechner Memorial Medal three times as the Reserves Best & Fairest, as well as taking home the EDFL Reserves Best & Fairest in 2023. 🏅🏅🏅

And his contribution to Catani hasn’t just been on the footy field. Tanny served as Club President for five years from 2018–2022, giving plenty of his time to help make our club what it is today.

Then there’s the Rodda family. ❤️
His wife Geordie is a familiar face around the club as our Netball Treasurer, and together they have their two beautiful girls, Rosie and Junie.

From a Catani junior, to premiership captain, coach, president, medal winner and now 250-gamer…

The Commander of the Catani Army has done it all. 🫡

Tanny, congratulations on an amazing milestone. We’re bloody lucky to have you, and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of 250 games in the navy blue.

What a huge weekend of finals for the Catani Army!

Unfortunately, our Baby Blues’ season has come to an end after a massive year. They made it all the way to the Semi Final and were incredibly impressive across all four quarters. What a season from our youngest team! You should all be so proud of yourselves. 💙👏

🔥 OVER TO OUR OTHER FINALS TEAMS…

🏆 Under 18s, 17 & Under & B Grade all came away with fantastic wins and will continue their finals campaigns!

👏 Congratulations to Hannah Russell (B Grade) and Ruby Francis (17 & Under) on being awarded Best on Court by the umpires. What an achievement!

💪 C Grade have been given another chance and will live to fight another day! We’ll be right behind you.

💙 13 & Under put absolutely everything into their final against Bunyip. Unfortunately, the final whistle saw them go down by eight goals, but the improvement these girls have made throughout the season has been incredible. You should be so proud of yourselves!

To all our teams, coaches, volunteers, families and the Catani Army, thank you for bringing the noise and supporting our players.

The finals journey continues… let’s keep getting around our Blues! 💙🏆
