Hi folks,

I still wanted to share a few impressions from my trip to Germany and Eurobike.

The Eurobike trade show featured plenty of cargo bikes and pedal‑assist e‑mobility solutions, many of which we haven’t seen in Australia yet. In Germany, these vehicles are used for last‑mile deliveries in inner‑city areas where delivery vans and trucks have restricted access. Some also fall into an electric‑vehicle subcategory and are eligible for government subsidies.

And yes, there were more than plenty of new e‑bike systems. Whoever needs more of those… and a fully 3D‑printed bike in titanium, and quick‑release brake lines, which were kinda cool.

After the show, I bent time & space by traveling on high‑speed trains through the country from Frankfurt to Hanover, Berlin and Hamburg (and not enough spaces), and back to Frankfurt, while stopping at as many bike shops and mobility‑focused cycling brands as possible.

Along the way, I spoke with around 20 bike shop owners and bike rental providers about their journeys — both personal and professional — on and around two wheels. We had great conversations about bicycles, cycling culture, technology, tools, shop layouts and best practices, and I returned home with plenty of ideas.

Most of all, I’m grateful to work in an industry that feels like a community: open, curious, supportive and collaborative. It’s one thing to share a passion for bikes; it’s another to share a passion for keeping each other in business and on two wheels.

Here’s a very brief selection from the many, many photos I took.

PS: The main conclusion is: F..ck flying and do more riding.

Why is Tuesday 11 August the most important day of the year to ride to work?

Let me explain.
The Census is held in August, which in Victoria is not the most inviting time to ride a bike or walk. In Central Victoria especially, it can be colder than coastal areas, so timing and location can suppress the number of commuter cyclists and walkers recorded. That matters because funding decisions for better and safer infrastructure depend on this data.

So next Tuesday, when you check the weather and reach for your car keys, think twice. 11 August is the day to ride — so you can say you rode to work and make this ride count.

What's going on at Bike Ranger?

The shop is still boarded up and Matt hasn't been seen in ages!

So here comes a quick update:
In the middle of the ‘renovation’ Matt had to head to Germany, went to bike expo, met with suppliers, visited heaps of cool bike shops and recharged his batteries. Now back, there are still some finishing touches to do.
However, Bike Ranger is back open for business so please reach out regarding servicing, repairs and new or pre-loved bikes via phone, email or smoke signals.

PS: More news coming soon ;)

Are you wondering if an eBike would suit your lifestyle?

If you want to get more active, the answer is yes.
If you want to cut costs and potentially replace your second car, the answer is also yes.
If reducing your carbon footprint matters to you, again—the answer is yes.

This Wombat Rally in carbon black is the last stock until late July, so you’ll need to act quickly—or explore the pre-owned ebike range at Bike Ranger.
