In the early 2000s, I became interested in technical diving. Living in Sydney, we are fortunate to have a variety of wrecks in the 45m to 80m range.
This offered me the opportunity to push my diving further and further my career as a technical diving instructor.
I have always approached this type of diving with the mindset of using the best possible equipment on the market, built by people at the forefront of technical and cave diving. This is what led me to Halcyon Dive Systems and my first piece of Halcyon equipment in 2001: an Explorer 40 wing and backplate. I was fascinated by the dives where the equipment was being used โ extreme deep ocean diving and cave exploration. I knew I had found my place.
Since then, I have been lucky enough to have a successful career as a technical diving instructor and to be part of many exploration projects around the world, from the first cave diving exploration in China to numerous deep wreck diving projects across the globe โ from the freezing temperatures of the Baltic Sea to the tropical and temperate waters of the South Pacific.
While the equipment has evolved over the years, one thing within Halcyon has not: the drive for innovation and performance-driven products.
One standout in the evolution of Halcyon equipment is the Symbios CCR. In 2009, I learned to dive the Halcyon RB80, my first rebreather. It was a time when eCCRs were evolving, and the non-electronic RB80 was very appealing to me.
Fast forward to today and the newly released Halcyon Symbios eCCR. Its lightweight and compact size is fantastic for travel, and its simplistic design is packed with technology, including the worldโs first wireless communication system between the rebreather, HUD, and handset.
On this 30th anniversary of Halcyon, the release of the Symbios suite of products highlights that the brand remains true to its core values and marks the beginning of the next 30 years. Happy Birthday Halcyon!
