Round 12 : Sat 21 June vs Cronulla RSL: 3-3 draw. Great game today girls in a very very close game with RSL. Bit of a slow start today as the girls were obviously worried about messing up their hair after the team photos! Thankfully we woke up halfway through the 2nd half only 1-0 down and got on with it!! Girls fought back well to lead 3-2 with some great passing from the midfield and amongst the forwards. Abbey picked up all 3 goals today - well done! Unfortunately we conceded a late runaway goal with about 10 seconds to go to make it 3-3. Well done to Olivia on picking up the coach's award for "best passer" on her return from sickness - welcome back Liv! Zara picked up her first "MOM" award today with her best display yet in the green and gold - great work! Big thanks also to Mia for jumping into goals for most of the match after injuring her foot early in the game - some great saves Mia - well done. And last of all, happy birthday Charlotte and thanks for the donuts!!

Round 8; Sat 31 May vs Georges River; 1-Nil win. Absolutely fantastic effort by all of the girls today as they put in their best performance of the season. Everyone stayed in their positions most of the time today and there was some brilliant passing as the girls tried to get around a very defensive focused team who were playing 6 at the back to try and combat our passing game. Could go on and on today about all the good things that every single person in the team did today, but I won't. Man of Match award went to Piper this week for never giving up and for some great passes but it could have gone to 5 or 6 of the girls. Coaches special award for "best passing" got its second outing this week and went to Charlotte today - so she had the benefit of a selection of her choice at the canteen - coach's shout! Coach's award could be here to stay as it seems to be having the desired effect! Well done girls! Brilliant game today.

Round 4; Sat 3rd May vs Cronulla Seagulls 2 - 2-Nil Win - Slight temperature shock for the girls at GMO this morning but not one of the girls whinged about the cold (yeah right!). Anyway, once the coach managed to get the jaws working less and the legs moving more, the girls all played really, really well today - right across the park. We are starting to see a few benefits from the "S-P-C mantra" that the crazy coach keeps banging on about - Spread out - Pass the ball - Call for the ball - with the girls keeping a good shape, passing well and really importantly trusting their team mates on the ball. I was really proud of the way the girls continued to try to apply our style of play, despite the close game and playing against a team that at times resembled a swarm of bees! After some tense moments, including some missed chances by us and Seagulls hitting the post, we persevered and finally playing the 'beautiful game' won out, with Abbie slotting two late goals to snare the win. The goals coming after she found some space away from the pack of Seagulls, called for the ball and her team mates found her with a couple of great passes. Special mention to our defence today with Ella P, Emma and Ella W all having great games and defending their hearts out against what was at times a barrage of 6 or 7 Seagulls "forwards" and Ciara playing well in goals. Ella W had what I thought was her best game ever for the club and took out the player of the match award. Special mention to Sarah and Lani from the U10X's for filling in for us and helping us out. Great game girls - fantastic team effort - with everyone doing their job - well done!!

Round 3: Sat 12th April vs Cronulla RSL - Simply stunning morning at Solander field this morning. The sun was out (for a few seconds at a time!), wind was howling and driving rain coming in sideways under the umbrellas of those hardy spectators toughing it out on the sidelines. At least we were playing given all the rain this week!! Really close game today and a great effort by all of the girls, in a vastly improved performance. Everyone tried hard and played well - particularly soaking wet! Abbey and Jade both opened their account for the season and their goals meant the game was locked at 2-2 with about 15 to go. We found the posts a few times and missed a few relatively straight forward chances and as it happens the other team scored 2 late goals to snare the win. Today's game added to the "Shoulda won" pile! Abbey picked up the player of the match award - well done Abbey!! Remember: All kids to recite our "mantra" before bed every day of the Easter break: Pass the ball to our team mates, call for the ball and spread out!

Game 1 but Round 2: Sat 5th April - Well new season finally got officially underway this morning on a wet and soggy Gymea Oval. What better way to get in the groove than a bit of team bonding via wiping some mud on each others faces! Girls tried very very hard but went down 5 nil to a great little Gymea team. Pre season regime obviously not intensive enough as it was hard work on the big field - Lots of red faces post game! Emma Prior had a blinder and was a rock back there at the centre of defence, deservedly picking up player of the match - well done Emma! Coach's clipboard full of notes - work starts on next week's game tomorrow!!

Game 1 of new season scheduled for Sat 29th March, but unfortunately a wash out. Thankfully most of the girls had a hit out against the LPFC U10X's on the artificial turf at 5 sports this morning. Bring on next weekend!

Game 4; Sat 27th April vs LPFC U9W2's at Glenn McGrath; Won 2-1. Can't get any more "local" than the much anticipated local derby against the W2's. School holidays meant that both teams emerged from the change rooms with depleted rosters, but another great game from the W1's saw them come away with the points. Charlotte and Jade B scored the goals and Olivia and Charlotte shared the man of the match awards. Shoulders back and chin high for the girls in the playground after this one!

Game 3; Sat 20th April; Wash out!

Game 2; Sat 13th April vs St Pats at Forest Road; Won 5-0. What a turnaround! Well summed up by Steve B:
"Hello all
Our first of many wins this season with a 5-0 victory. It seems the training session on Friday definitely paid off, the girls have the eye of the tiger now.
Great goals from Mia, Jas (x3) and Jade. Superb defense from Ella, Emma and Ciara. Great all round performances from Charlotte and the Olivia’s...
The girls gave 110% with their backing up and following the play.
Ella Watson’s strong boot was missed.
Man of the match was Ciara who didn’t stop all game and never gave up, great effort.
Lets get another victory this weekend."

Game 1; Sat 6th April vs Sylvania Heights; Loss 0-7. 1st game of the season and one to forget. Pre season training programme tossed out of the window and back to the drawing board!

27/03/2012

2nd Round draw up - vs Gymea at Gymea Bay Oval. Kick-off at a spritely 8am!
