Passionate Queenslander and former Maroons forward Billy Moore says you do not run onto Lang Park, you float on it.

Moore, who played 17 games for the Maroons after making his debut in 1992, is remembered for initiating the "Queenslander" chant.

In the midst of the Super League war in 1995, Moore was part of a Queensland side missing many of its star players and given no chance against a Blues side that contained 12 Kangaroos representatives.

We start screaming Queenslander and everyone in the change sheds were whipped into a frenzy. It was the rally cry to help your mate, do something special.

Moore said it was his North Sydney team-mate Gary Larson who asked him to fire up the young Maroons who were fielding a side containing nine rookies.

"It was the rally cry to help your mate, do something special."

Moore grew up a stone's throw from the New South Wales border and said Origin was so important to him due to the interstate rivalry where he lived.

"The Queenslander call had been around for nearly a decade but no one knew about it except for the players," he said.

"That was until they stuck a camera in the tunnel that night. The Queenslander legend was born."

Against the odds the Maroons displayed the spirit of the Queensland call and won that game 2-0 in a try-less battle.

Just letting you know I’m hooked on your pop up crab pots, I live on the Sandy Straights and got mine from Fraser Coast camping in Maryborough, I have highly recommended them to a lot of people from here and further afield as we have 2 Air BnB across the road from us and when I show them your pop up pots, they get rid of their cheap pots and head off to get some of yours.
...would you believe we have pulled up a 800cm pop up and had 16 muddies in it, mind you I do put in a lot of time getting my baits ready and I refuse to use chicken, the only month we don’t get muddies here is in November. A mate of mine is in town now buying 3 pop up pots of yours, he comes with me and he’s got the cheap pots from BCF 4 for $60 bucks, I get our baits ready exactly the same for both of us and using your pots I out crab him 6 to 1.

The Queensland Amateur Fishing Clubs Association Inc titles have been run and won with a Queensland Crabbing Champion Crowned!!

The winner is....drum roll.... Robert Mau! "Mau" came down from Mackay for the Championships and had never been crabbing around the Capricorn Coast before! Cracking job Mau!

Next up is the Australian Anglers Association Titles from 17–29 May 2027!!!

Below is a an excerpt from the letter we received from the QAFCA.

On behalf of all competitors, volunteers, and organisers, we sincerely thank you for your generous support of our fishing competition. Your sponsorship helped make this event possible and contributed to a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

The Crab'n Gear pots were proudly displayed at our headquarters throughout the week-long competition. During registration, one competitor stopped to inspect them and confidently declared that he would be “taking them home” and asked if he could load them into his Ute straight away. He remarked that they were ten times better than the pots he was currently using.

As it turned out, he was right—he won the crab pots.

Since the competition, he has contacted us to share his experience, reporting excellent results and telling us how many crabs the pots had caught. Coming from Mackay, where strong tidal flows can make crabbing challenging, he was particularly impressed with how well the pots performed. He also commented that he would be returning to the Australian Anglers Association Titles to "win" some more.

Congratulations to these guys on the eve of their 25th Birthday. A great example of how a small family business can grow and thrive. The big guys came into town but the community stuck with them and they are giving back in spades!

It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since this all started 🎂

This month, About Town Bait & Tackle officially turns 25.

Looking at these old photos of when Shaun & Kelvin first opened the doors a quarter of a century ago, it is pretty wild to see how far we've come. Through 3 different shop locations and thousands of fishing stories, one thing hasn't changed, we couldn't have done it without our amazing local community backing us every step of the way.

To celebrate 25 years in business, we are throwing a weekend event so big it’s taken us two and a half decades to plan it.

Great to see John from Stanage Bay Fishing Accommodation 0427664000 today.
While he was in Brisbane he stocked up on pots and is heading back to Crab Heaven!
