Have you fallen into this trap after taking time off training?

It’s tempting to come back after a break and “just shoot a score” to see where you’re at — but that logic misses what actually changes when you step away.

In this Behind the Scenes clip from Rogue Archery, we break down why time off affects bow fitness, conditioning, and form consistency, and why jumping straight to scoring can hide the real work that needs rebuilding.

Come back smart. Rebuild the foundations before chasing numbers.

𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙚 𝙎𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙙!

This is the the entry point into our development pathway at Rogue Archery, and is essentially for archers who are no longer beginners... but and not quite ready to shoot competitions yet.

It's their incubation period where we tech solid technique fundamentals, shot process and basic movement patterns that will set them up for future success, without over emphasizing score, heavy poundage or other distracting outcomes!

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 (𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲).

It is true, that the heavier your stabilisers, the more stable your bow will be... until you accept that the bod is an extension of yourself, and the ultimate stability is when you balance the bow mass weight, with the draw weigh, with your biomechanical structure.

This is how we do stabiliser tuning & balancing.

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, and mobility is the opposite of stability...

So how do you make the most mobile joint in the body stable?

In this clip from the Rogue Archery Masterclass, we break down how the glenohumeral joint function, why excessive muscular tension creates inconsistency, and how proper stabilisation leads to more repeatable shots.

𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙮. ⚖️

Start with the center of mass just a couple of inches in front of the stabilizer mount. From there, small tweaks—moving weights, adjusting your V-bar angle—bring your setup to neutral.

Do it right, and your bow is already 95–98% 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 before you even draw.

Coming back after time off? Don’t rush to shoot a score.

It might feel like the best way to “see where you’re at”—but it’s actually misleading.

Before the break, you built fitness, form, and control through structured training for a reason.

Jumping straight into scoring skips all of that.

𝗥𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Focus on your process, not the number—your performance will follow.

Our club League with Aspire Archery are designed to simulate relevant competition rounds, and give archers experience practicing tournament scenario's.

One of the key things archers need to learn as part of their mental performance, is the how to maintain process focus. After all, it's the process that gives you the outcome!

Striking the balance between focusing on process, caring about the outcome without becoming emotionally attached to it requires maturity, emotional regulation, perspective and experience.

The Aspire League is where they get that experience.

Most people overcomplicate expansion.

It’s not a rubber band.
It’s not some abstract “feeling.”

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Fine-tuning your shoulders and elbows at full draw to create a stronger, more efficient position.

No big movement—just a few millimeters done right.

That’s where consistency starts.

This past Tuesday we had 13 of our Rogue archers shoot the 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙌𝙍𝙀 𝙖𝙩 𝙈𝙋𝘽, from this we had 8 archers who were shooting their first QRE! Would just like to say a big thanks to 𝙈𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩 𝙋𝙚𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙬𝙢𝙖𝙣 for hosting this event and to congragulate those archers who shot their first event.

Those who went from Rogue were as follows:

𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙪
𝙎𝙤𝙥𝙝𝙞𝙚 𝘽
𝙀𝙡𝙡𝙖
𝘽𝙚𝙘
𝙈𝙖𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙚
𝙆𝙮𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙠𝙖
𝙎𝙖𝙢
𝘽𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙖
𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙖𝙣
𝙐𝙣𝙪𝙧𝙩𝙨𝙚𝙩𝙨𝙚𝙜
𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙖𝙝
𝙍𝙝𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙖
𝙇𝙖𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙣

Not only did we have some of our archers shooting this event but a member of our development squad Narelle judged the competition, just wanted to give a special shoutout to her and coach Beau. As Beau not only shot the event but was able to teach many of our newer Rogue members how QRE formats work. QRE's are great events for all archers who would like the experience of a competition format before competing in a competition. Beau was a great mentor in teaching our archers the basics of competition routines, such as how to mark arrow holes, what you need to do for an equipment inspection, and how double scoring works.

Although it might all sound simple when being explained, if you haven't done it before it can be quite overwhelming. This is why we call an archer's first shoot a 'butterfly shoot', as this shoot is when you get all the butterflies out because often in pushing yourself to do the first shoot the next ones aren't so bad. So I would just like to thank all those 8 archers who shot either their first official shoot or QRE, just for giving it a go. Now I look forward to seeing how you all perform at the next event now you have had some experience in a competition environment, so thank you to everyone for showing up 👏👏👏!
