Well with the conclusion of the awards, that wraps up another Year for Zone 3
We had a good intake of new match officials throughout the year at different clubs and finished with 56, which is 9 up on 2023 figures.
Around the clubs, we had another solid year for Redlands, Wynnum, and Capalaba working together in their cluster and with the help of Craig Horsfall who was the assistant Zone 3 Coordinator this year amongst other things and really focused on these clubs in his area to help them develop.
Once again, we managed to sign off all match officials on their 2024 NRL re-accreditation. We also took in 5 new debutants and they all got the opportunity to to display their new skills on-field at one of, if not ALL of the 5 Gala Days we had during the year.
In the Eastern Cluster, Stewart Wyer again kept the match official engine humming along with the assistance of the Carina, Easts, Mt Gravatt, and Bulimba. Thanks Stewart for your assistance with not only the clubs but also the great work you do in coordinating the Match Officials for the Met East Primary Schools Competitions.
In the Western cluster, we seemed to struggle a little at the smaller clubs such as Forest Lake, St Brendans, Graceville, and Inala. Souths Juniors and Souths Sunnybank were the stronger of the clubs in this region. We can only try to build from here and more work needs to be done to try and capture more match officials in the area.
Congratulations to all of those referees who captured awards at BRLRA Annual Dinner & Awards night, held at Rydges Hotel, Southbank β
Tyler Hart (Souths Sunnybank Magpies) β 2024 Zone 3 Rookie of the Year
Melony Bonney (Capalaba Warriors) β 2024 Zone 3 Coaching & Development Award
Balin Holley (Carina Tigers) β 2024 Zone 3 Referee of the Year
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Club Referee Coordinators and Cluster Coordinators for their efforts throughout the year in organising referees. Well done Stewart Wyer, Jesse Burns, Brett Freeman, Tanya & Jarrod Bonney, Amanda Welch, Fran Lomas, Kelly Hilton, and Ben Lythall
Well done to all match officials who were involved in both the RLB Junior and the SEQ QRL Girls Grand Final Series and to those who also made it through to representative honours at the various QISSRL QSSRL carnivals. A fantastic effort to you all!!
Weβll be back for Zone 3 next year, bigger and better than ever!!
Cheers,
Marc Sauvage & Craig Horsfall
