The Game of AFL Masters Australian Football (AFLM) provides the opportunity for players 30 years and over to enjoy the game of Aussie Rules Football in a safe, supportive, family orientated and fun environment. After first commencing in 1980, the sport is governed by AFL Masters and its eight member State Associations and is now played by over 200 teams throughout Australia. (formerly Masters Aust

AFLM has a national standardised set of modified rules designed to reduce the risks of injury and has the benefit of being acknowledged and supported by the AFL and the Australian Sports Commission. You will find a welcoming atmosphere at AFLM clubs with an emphasis on family involvement and fun social interaction. While a good level of fitness is required to enjoy the game fully, training runs once or twice a week without huge time commitments are the order of the day for AFLM. The big annual event for AFLM is the National Carnival which is rotated amoung various State venues.

Great day at the footy yesterday in Cardwell with 10 locals getting involved Mark, Macca, Mike, Colin, DJ, Lyn, Bob, Greg, Adrian & Chris.

We had 4 goal kickers 2 for the first time ever, DJ dominated the ruck and Adrian won the medal for best player. Special thanks to Lyn for running the water all day in the heat.

Thanks to the Townsville Sharks (and legend Maurie Soars) and the Cairns guys.

No training this Wednesday it has been moved to Friday the 6th to allow more (new) players to attend.

Thanks to Darren, IGA Cardwell and all the shoppers who purchased our gourmet snags with onions at our first fundraiser today.

It was great to have a few people show interest in getting involved, anyone else interested should make time to drop into training, 5pm every Wednesday at Gregory St Cardwell.

We are happy for boys and girls of all ages to join us, so far we have had 8 people train with us I am happy to say we have had a lady (early 50’s) join most training sessions, even had 6 local kids aged 5 - 10 experience the odd oval shaped AFL ball for the first time last week.

So come join us…

Remember - Sporting clubs have many roles, you don't have to play to get involved, but you have to get involved to share in the fun.

Don’t forget we train at 5pm every Wednesday @ Gregory St Cardwell.

Masters Football is generally for 35 and over but if you want to train your welcome to turn up and have a go at any age.

You don’t need an Aussie Rules background you just need to turn up and have fun.

We may even have a full esky for after training this week so thats your excuse to join in.
