THE NEST IS GETTING SOME LOVE

We know The SFL Nest means a lot to our players, members and community, so it’s great to finally share work getting underway on the playing surface.

After ongoing conversations with the ACT Government throughout this season, and ahead of the cricket season, work is now underway on our home.

The first stage started this week, with the playing surface being scarified and thatched to remove the thatch layer and prepare the ground for the next stages of the works.

Over the coming months, you’ll see different colours, patches and plenty of activity around the ground as the works progress. That’s all part of the process.

The current program includes further work later in spring, fertilising and preparation through summer, and ultimately rye oversowing in March to help get the surface ready for the 2027 season.

A massive congratulations to Jacob Taylor, who will play his 100th 2nd Grade game in this weekend’s Grand Final.

In doing so, JT becomes just the 5th player in the club’s history to play 100 games in both 1st Grade and 2nd Grade - an incredible achievement that speaks volumes about his dedication and commitment to the Belconnen Magpies.

A fantastic milestone for a great clubman. Good luck this weekend JT - hopefully the day is topped off with a premiership!

Tiarne Reid is the kind of footballer every team wants in their side. She is strong, fearless and never afraid to put her body on the line. When there’s a tackle to be made, Tiarne tackles hard, and when a teammate needs support, she is always there to back them up.
Her long kicking is another one of her great strengths. She can launch the ball a long way and turn defence into attack in an instant. Her ability to read the game, compete hard and use her kick makes her a valuable player on the field.
But as good as Tiarne is as a footballer, what really stands out is the person she is away from the game. She is loyal, caring, supportive and someone her teammates can count on. She celebrates the success of others, encourages those around her and always puts the team first.
Tiarne is proof that being a great footballer isn’t just about how hard you tackle, how far you kick or how well you play. It’s about the way you treat people, the way you support your teammates and the character you show every day.
A strong footballer, a fierce competitor, a great teammate but an even better person. Congratulations on 100 1st Grade Games Tiarne!
