MIDWEEK PENNANTS ROUNDUP

The CBC Women’s MWP team played at home against the lovely ladies from Crookwell. Canberra won overall and won both rinks.
As always, it was a pleasure playing and enjoying the company of the Crookwell team.

The Men's MWP team travelled to chilly Crookwell to take on the reigning pennants champions. Both teams combined well to master the conditions and the Crookwell greens to win their games. The final score, a convincing overall victory by 50-28 . The Men’s Cobras now sit atop the Pennants ladder ahead of next week's match at home against Weston Creek. Go Cobras.

Part 3: The history of Canberra Bowling Club

DID YOU KNOW?
During its first half century, Canberra Bowling Club became an important part of sporting life in the national capital. The Club regularly hosted visiting teams from regional and metropolitan clubs while participating in district pennant competitions.
The Club welcomed politicians, diplomats, senior public servants and community leaders to its greens, making it one of the city’s most recognised sporting locations and reflecting Canberra’s unique character as the nation’s capital.
Over the decades the Club also embraced community service and fundraising for many charitable causes.

The shrubbery overlooking the CBC greens had a short back-n-sides tidy up today. It’s now looking very smart thanks to our volunteer gardeners, Travis Borgo, Dave Spencer, Lois Waters, Luke Morwitch and Dave Linbeck. Great job everyone.

Along with the ladies, Men’s Midweek Pennants also started this week. Our team played a home game against Belconnen and won both rinks. It was a great team effort, with the leads Brian O’Connell and Kevin Hogan, really laying down the platform for both teams.

A big thanks to AL Morgan for managing the catering and Charles Smith for umpiring.

Also, a big welcome to our skips Jamie Freeman and Mark Whybrow, who no doubt enjoyed playing against their old club.

Canberra Bowling Club recently hosted their annual Sports Day, a triples competition, open to all ACT players. Teams from multiple clubs attended and enjoyed the morning games. The best part, however, was the food and fun afterwords. Winners repeatedly squealed with delight as lucky tickets were drawn for fabulous prizes donated by the CBC women social bowlers.
Thanks Donna Seddon and the team for organising another outstanding CBC event.
