in Queanbeyan 1962, and is considered one of the oldest martial arts clubs in the Canberra region. The Academy teaches a practical, non-competitive martial art to people of all ages with an emphasis on Self Defence. The techniques taught use an attacker's strength to a defender's advantage. These defensive strategies aim to initially evade, disable and finally immobilise an attacker. The syllabus includes the teachings of Jishukan Ryu 自修館流 (Jujitsu-Kempo founded by Shuho Sugita 1947); Judo 柔道 (founded by Jigoro Kano 1882), Boxing and aspects of modern Jujitsu. Classes are conducted in a semi-formal environment. The aim is for students to enjoy themselves while improving personal skills such as coordination, reflexes, physical fitness, self control and self esteem. The Academy Motto is "Be Master of yourself"
