Fury Shine Bright in a Huge Weekend of Baseball!
The Fury kicked off the day in style with a dominant 13-0 win over Newcastle. While the scoreboard showed Fury’s strength, it was equally exciting to see a passionate and promising group of new and developing players taking the field for Newcastle. The energy was contagious, smiles never left the players’ faces, and the sportsmanship between both teams was a highlight of the match.
Game 2 saw the Fury take on Illawarra, adding another win to the weekend tally. With zero walks allowed, it was a clean game defensively. The Fury bats were on fire, racking up 12 hits, while Hosie was a defensive powerhouse, nailing two runners attempting to steal second base. Olivia Jackson was outstanding on the mound, throwing a complete game and giving the bullpen a well-earned rest before the final.
The championship game was a showdown against a consistently strong Far North Coast side, and it was clear from the outset that it would be a battle. FNC jumped to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the first, capitalising on six rare Fury errors considering the Fury had only made one error all tournament!
Em Colman handled the pressure, throwing strikes and helping to settle the game. From there, the Fury showed incredible grit, clawing back with 3 runs in the 3rd and 3 more in the 4th to tie it up 6-6 heading into the final frame.
In a nail-biting last inning, the Fury needed 2 runs to win and started strong! The first two batters reached base, and a passed ball moved them to second and third with one out. Despite the momentum, the Fury couldn’t bring the runs home, and FNC clinched the title 7-6 in a thrilling finish.
Congratulations to Far North Coast for a hard-fought win and an excellent weekend of baseball. Hats off to the Fury for a fantastic tournament, strong team spirit, powerful performances, and so much to be proud of!
Thank you to NSW Country Baseball for a great weekend and to Illawarra Baseball for hosting this great tournament! Thank you to all the scorers and support staff to make this tournament possible.
