Left and right brain thinking starts with Left and Right Moving!

Mastering ‘LATERALITY’ (our two sides) - affects not only fluent movement but how much of our BRAIN we can access. Most children will begin to show dominance for one side or the other well before school and not just for right or left hand – Children may be right handed, kick left foot, listen with the right ear more and cartwheels come more naturally to the left. A DOMINANT side helps ‘specialize’ & streamline our movements. Learning lots this week in our Junior GymKids theme!

Gymnastics is often called the foundation sport — and for good reason.
The strength, balance, coordination, and body awareness developed in gymnastics transfer directly to almost every other sport: football, swimming, skiing, athletics, dancing.

Why do we teach left and right in gymnastics?
Because crossing the midline — reaching your left hand to your right side, or stepping one foot over the other — helps build connections between the two sides of the brain.
These movements support coordination, concentration, and learning to read and write.
Left and Right theme is teaching our Junior Gym Kids so much more than directions.
