FNQ Swimming goes back to 1961 at which time Sir Thomas Covacevich became the first President. Since then the Region has grown to 18 clubs and spans an area in Queensland from Tully in the South, to Weipa and Cooktown in the North. Our clubs collectively have a membership of around 1300 swimmers ranging from Learn-to-Swim through 'B' Grade (Novice) kids and on to the more competitive 'A' Grade swi

mmers. During the past years, our organization has embarked on a challenging review of its systems and activities and is currently using electronic nominations for Carnival program formats within its swimming calendar. We also have an active Achiever’s and Target Squad program that provides the first step on the squad ladder, complimenting the Queensland Region's Development Squad

The website is now a reality for us and has been organised to co-inside with the creation of websites for the other clubs in our Region. Also of note is the determined commitments by member clubs to standardise swim meet programs (with Meet Manager and Team Manager), and the collating, processing and distribution of results and records, which are now available through this site. FNQ Regional Swimming is a progressive and innovative group of enthusiastic Clubs determined to work through its parent organization, Queensland Swimming, with an eye always on improving the lot of it's swimming members!

And a big shout‑out to our FNQ Technical Officials who keep everything flowing. You are the reason we’re able to run days like this, and we’re so grateful you’re here ❤️

Some phenomenal results to report from the 2026 Australian Swimming Trials, with three FNQ athletes stepping up on the national stage and delivering outstanding performances.

🥇 Grant “Scooter” Patterson — Centrals
Scooter had an exceptional meet, securing his place on the 2026 Para Pan Pacific Swimming Championships team with two brilliant swims:

150m IM MC — 1st Place
50m Breaststroke MC — 2nd Place
A huge achievement and another chapter in an already remarkable career.

🏊‍♂️ Sydney Kito — Stingrays
Sydney took on two demanding events and held his own in a stacked national field:

200m Individual Medley — 12th Place
200m Backstroke — 13th Place
A strong showing across two technical races.

🏊‍♂️ Nathan Andronicus — Marlin Coast
Nathan delivered two outstanding swims, showcasing both endurance and power:

400m Freestyle (MC) — 13th Place
100m Breaststroke (MC) — 10th Place (narrowly missing a finals spot)
A phenomenal effort!

Amazing to see so many FNQ swimmers stepping away from the pool to have a go at the Green Island Ocean Swim this week! With athletes taking on either the 1.5km or 3km distances, they pushed through a pretty decent current and some choppy waves — proper open‑water conditions.

Huge effort from everyone who got out there and gave it a crack. FNQ spirit on full display.

Massive congrats to Scooter, who’s locked in for his 4th Pan Pac Para‑Swimming Championships after qualifying for the 150IM Multi‑Class.

He’ll be hoping to add to his already epic Pan Pac medal stash — 9 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze — built over years of hard work, grit, and pure talent.

held an unforgettable club night last Friday, which was truly a night to remember!

The excitement was unmistakable as the swimmers gathered together, which included and the Little Pears Swim School, to socialize, have fun, and be inspired by some amazing special guests.

The club was thrilled to welcome Olympic gold medallist Kaylee McKeown, and it was a real treat to have former local boy and Saints legend Zac Tabuai join, who is loving the challenge involved in becoming a dolphin 😍
