Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed, sad, lonely, unhappy and just empty?

Well, I have the solution for you: It’s self-care!

Self-care plays a very important aspect in our lives and without it we as human beings can’t function properly.

I learnt it myself the very hard way, I used to neglect my feelings, my emotions, my body, my physical and mental health. And it lead me to depression.
I used to have severe anxiety, I was unhappy, I felt so empty, without a purpose and I didn’t feel like that I was living a good life.

UNTIL I started to take care of myself.

My self-care journey started with my yoga practise a few years ago. It wasn’t easy to take care of myself because I had to put in the effort.
And this is where most people stop: at the ‘making the effort’ stage.

Most people don’t know how to practise self-care. They think it has to be a ‘vacation’ where they have to save up some money before or buying nice things for themselves. Yes that is self-care but it is expensive self-care.

But that is not it, self-care can be as easy as reading a book. Taking some time out in your day and just to be with yourself to do something you really enjoy doing. It could be journaling, writing down your feelings and emotions that you’re carrying with you to eventually let them go.

I actually started habits for a self-care routine which include my own yoga practise and meditation, I journal and practise gratitude daily.

And there is soooo many other ways of taking care of ourselves!

Did you know that mindfulness and meditation are two completely seperate things?

✨When we practise mindfulness, we are arising awareness where we non-judgementally pay attention in the present moment. For example when we’re eating and we’re thinking about how tasty the food is, or we’re thinking about the consistency or the taste of what we’re eating.

✨Meditation on the other hand is a mental practise which helps us connect with ourselves, perhaps with our breath and it helps us to turn our brains off from arising and unwanted thoughts.

✨Mindfulness and meditation are mirror-like reflections of each other. Mindfulness supports and enriches meditation while meditation nurtures and expands mindfulness.

✨Mindfulness can be applied to any situation throughout the day and meditation is usually practised for a specific amount of time.

Comment below and tell me if you have been mindful today.

The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss and have found their way out of depths.
These people have an appreciation, a sensitivity and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness and a deep, loving concern. ~ Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

Has yoga helped you with anything in particular in your life?

For me Yoga helped me to overcome depression, deal with past traumas and anxiety. It helped me to connect with myself in ways I could not have imagined a few years ago.

I learnt how to be aware of my emotions, how to control them as well as how to deal with anxiety and depression by doing pranayama (breath work) and asanas.

Healing from depression, anxiety and trauma can be a very long process. It’s nothing that can happen overnight, it’s an ongoing process and practising yoga and mindfulness played a big part in my healing journey so far.

And I know that I’m still healing, I’m still on the way of becoming the best version of myself and the best thing about it all is that I’m AWARE of it!

I wasn’t aware of what I was going through a few years ago but practising Yoga and learning about mindfulness was what helped me overcome many fears.

✨What was YOUR reason for starting yoga? And what has it helped you with?

Never stop following your dreams. All that it takes is that you believe in yourself. ✨

Always remember: you are the creator of your own life. You’re the only person in your life that can make the changes, that could lead you to your own happiness.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn’t be doing. If you do something that makes you happy, keep doing it!! ❤️

Have you moved your body today yet?

If not.. why don’t you just take 5 minutes now and stretch your body a little bit. Even if it’s just some side stretches, a gentle forward fold or cat and cow movements.

Moving is soooo so beneficial for us!! Especially if we sit at a desk a lot, even in jobs where we stand a lot, we never get the movements in that would benefit for our physical AND mental health. Moving is great for anxiety, it reduces stress and gives us a great opportunity to actually feel and connect with our bodies.

If you haven’t yet downloaded my free yoga starter guide, feel free to check it out in my bio. It will give you a 6 minute short yoga sequence which you can do anywhere at any time ☺️

Did you guys know, that practising gratitude daily can already help you to a healthier mind set?
Even if you just write down 3 words that you were grateful for today will create ‘happy hormones’ and make you feel better, instantly!
Practising gratitude helped me a lot to start appreciating my life and everything that surrounds me.

This is what I was grateful for today:

• I’m grateful for our warm weather
• I’m grateful for my dog Riley
• I’m grateful for having an amazing boss (at the gym I work at)

What are you grateful for today?

I’d love if you shared at least 1 thing in the comments 💕✨

Let’s talk about savasana!

It’s everyone favourite pose.
Most yoga teachers conclude their yoga practise with a long and piece full savasana.

Have you ever wondered why ?

This pose is the one students look forward to the most in a yoga practise. It’s more than just a resting pose as it calms the central nervous system as well as the mind and reduces stress, anxiety and headaches.

It’s like a small meditation where we get the chance to connect with ourselves, feel our body after the practise and practise gratitude. ✨

Who loves beach practises?
Definitely me!!
The sand on the beach feels so soft in any pose, it really helps me with certain poses that I can’t practise on my mat, like mermaid due to knee pain. I also love practising handstands and forearm stand as it doesn’t hurt as much when I fall!

The sand… yeah, that’s a different subject 🙈🤣
I guess a great practise is the sacrifice for a car full of sand 😁
